Im buying my lighting for my 150 and and going to go with 3 250watt halides with 2 t5 for actinics to start.
I have been bouncing between the m58 ballast, the m80 ballast or a electronic. The m80 has the most par with the m58 in second,

I just want to make sure that its ok to run SE bulbs on the m80 ballasts.
Im thinking the m80 is the best choice cause it has the most par and i would also have the option to run DE bulbs sometime in the future without changing out the ballast.
So whats everyone else think??

bump, someone has to know!
M80 ballasts running SE bulbs is ok right? !!! let me know so i can order them :D

Hello Kurt03, im running 4 PFO 250w HQI ballast /w SE bulbs in my 4x4 cube. My favorite bulb is Reeflux 10K, it has the crisp white look with a tint of blue. I don't even run VHO supplement in my system. This is the best 10K bulb i ever have. I have try Ushio 10K, XM 10K, helios 12.5, they all look yellow to me.

Most German bulbs are recomended to be run on M80 ballast and will not suffer from a short lifespan. (Ushio, Radium, Aquaconnect, Aquamedic, .....)

what about XM10k se bulbs? those are ok on the m80 ballast right?
It's not made in Germany so I can't be for sure. My statement only applies to the majority of German bulbs, not Asian made bulbs. But I highly doubt it since the M80 ballast delivers nearly 400 watts to that bulb. No wonder it is as bright as a 400 watt 10K.

I believe the Ushio SE 250 watt is designed to be run off a M58 ballast.

If you run the probe start bulbs off an M80 ballast you will reduce the life of the bulb. Something to keep in mind.
