Macro algae in back of the tank fuge?

Hi all,

I have a Uniquarium style of tank where the sump is built into the back of the aquarium. Two of the sump chambers used to house bio-balls which I have removed and replaced with live sand and rock rubble.

Because the flow is quite fast through this area, and I cannot adjust it I have had a hard time keeping Caulerpa. Is there other macro algae that responds well to high flow, and still aids with nutrient export and nitrate control? What about mangroves?

Thanks in advance!

Rob
