MacroAlgae

Anyone know where I can buy some MacroAlgae? I picked up some from a dude on craigslist (supposed to be "thin" chaeto) but it's seems like it never flourished and died off? It basically became hard, almost plastic like so I ended up tossing it. I'm placing it in my emporer 400 HOB filter converted to refugium. Have LED lights on it with live sand at the bottom. Was thinking of buying online but figured it's safer to buy local if possible.

Thanks!

Carlos at the Aquarius gives a handful of chaeto away for free. If you're looking for caulerpa your best bet is to order from Gulf Coast Ecosystems. I couldn't find caulerpa locally.

Aquatouch regularly has both feather and grape caulerpa available. I have a bit of red grape that I got from Richard. But Sammy is right, the nicer "display" macros are going to come from online.

Both carlos and jorell have chaeto in stock now though. And I'd def. recommend chaeto if you're just using it as nutrient export.

I tried aquatouch a few times a couple weeks apart and they never had any caulerpa. Good luck finding what you're looking for!

I have dragons breath that I can spare too
Rippinfrags; if you have extra blue octode.. I'd be interested as well if possible

Thanks for all the replies guys. Yeah, i'm going to be using it as a nutrient export. My HOB is completely enclosed so nothing for show although i'm sure eventually, I'd like to get a bigger tank with a full blown sump/refugium where I wouldn't mind growing a forest of macroalgae. Had live plants in my 55gal freshwater tank and never ever had problems with algae/nutrient waste build up. Was a pretty good eco system for the freshwater fish.

I like the structure of the dragon's breath/blue octode. Doesn't look stringy like the cheato. I was having issues where when the stuff I had was dying/breaking off, it would overflow into the tank and clog up the powerheads. I'm thinking I can try to establish the DB/BO and then throw in some chaeto? What do you guys think?

Whomever feels like they have excess to share, I work off central/thomas and can swing by or I live in Avondale off 101/Indian School and can swing by after work. I'm thinkin either rippin or sweet. vincent, you can get back up duty lol :p

BTW..Sweet....I ride an 07 GSXR1000

I think cheato was the easiest for me personally, it grows rapidly, is effective and a great home for pods. red dragon is great to but super slow growing for me. As for blue octode, I had it once and it slowly broke off a bunch of pieces later dying off, but I'd like another shot at it when I get the chance. But a lot of macros seem to do different depending on flow, light, water parameters IMO.

Heavywater247 & Vincent- I have plenty of blue ochtode and dragons breath for both of you. I can bring it to the next frag meet in June or you can swing by and pick it up from my house. Pm me for details. Thanks!
