Mag From Live Aquaria

I ordered a mag and gig from LA last week. The gig looks great. But the mag was dead when it arrived. And it didn't smell like it died during the overnight shipping.

The bag with the gig contained clear water. The water in the bag with the mag was very cloudy and had large particles floating in it.

Upon delivery I temp acclimated them and adding them to my HT that was salinity matched to the water in the bags.

I should have examined the mag better because it was dead and contaminated my HT. I then had to break down the whole set up, clean it, and set it back up for the gig.

Water I drained for the HT into a bucket after it was contaminated by the mag.

Pics of the mag. It stunk. Not sure how long it was dead and had been decomposing.

I would be a little concerned about the gaping mouth.

That's not a gaping mouth, gaping implies it can't shut it whether it wants to or not. You can tell the mouth is still tight by looking at the edges meaning the gig could close it fully if it wanted to, it just isn't fully acclimated to the water yet so it is not 100% happy.

How are the mag and gig you were previously treating doing? Were they from LA/DD as well?

We're doing pretty well and so I moved them to One of my displays.

Something not quite right because they went down quickly. I returned them yo the HT but it was too late.

I've got to use more patience.

So so. I treated it for 7 days.

Looks good but mouth has been open most of the time.
It did not like being treated.
hopefully it will respond to clean antibiotic free water.

Those photos of you holding the dead mag make me cringe. I can't even stand the smell, let alone touching it. I've had a lot of dead nems and I don't think I can ever get used to the smell!

Best of luck with your gigs. My luck has been terrible lately.

Also, looking at the photos of what's left of the mag, I agree with you that it probably didn't happen during shipping. I'm guessing it must've looked pretty bad when they prepared it for shipping. I know this wouldn't happen with LA DD, but it makes me think twice about ordering from LA (in CA, which I hear is just one of the wholesalers who ships out for LA).

However, I do think that if anemones -- IME gigs and mags -- throw up in the bag, even just an overnight trip, it could definitely kill them. The two I recently ordered were both dying in the bag which was full of excrement and other nastiness. I received them on a Friday and they didn't make it past the weekend (never even inflated).
