Mag might be splitting

So I was looking at my H. Mag that I've had for over a year now and noticed it was a little deflated and thought Hmmm time for a water change. But was just getting ready to turn the lights off and noticed it is looking better. Then I looked closer because it looked like a saddle shape instead of its usual shape. And low and behold it looks like it is splitting at the mouth. Anyone else actually see theirs do this so I can confirm or start to worry if its not how they do it.

OrionN has reported that his split by being able to see rock through the mouth, then splitting on one side so that it is "C" shaped, then splitting on the other side. Hopefully he'll chime in soon.

My Magnifica split several times and it happened just as bradleym stated above. It start out go from healthy to looking bad, deflated and the dilated mouth. Then I can see the rock through the mouth, looking like an "O". Then the "O" turn to a "C". The anemone then start to move apart form two pieces. The halves then healed and form 2 anemones. The whole process happened over 2-3 days.

Thanks orion you were the one I was hoping to hear from. From the angles I have been able to see from I do believe that it is splitting. I'm just unable to see how far along it is in the process and I dont want to mess with it at all till it's done. How long after yours split till you fed it again orion.

At the time I keep him in a 450 Gal tank. Feed him a lot. First time he split was due to stress of import. The second time 6 months later and the third time about 1 year or so after that. I ended with 4 clones. I gave them away and not feed him so much after that.

I would wait until he completely heal. Mouth formed and no longer deflated. Then you can feed him. Any picture of the anemone?

Yea a couple pictures of the progression would be nice for all the people who keep H. Mags but have yet to see one split. As you both know, the first part of it is really scary.

Here's a few pics of after. You can see the original on the bottom right and the clone on the left. Lights just came on so not fully happy yet.

It must be something in the water because my 6 year old mag is splitting too. I will start a new thread with some progression pictures as soon as it is complete.

Well its been a few days and all is well. Both look happy as can be and the original(mother?) is almost back to original size. Biggest thing I was worried about was my clown wouldnt leave it alone. But it doesn't seem to have bothered it at all.

I don't know about video, dont wan't hours or days worth and I can't edit for a darn to do a cool progression video. Pics I can and will do.

In the pics you can see the front nem trying to stretch to the left a little. This is the same thing that happened the last time before the split. It seems its trying to attach itself to the rock and almost pull itself apart kinda. From the way thing went last time it should split within a week.
