Magnesium test problems

Hey guys and gals. I'm testing for magnesium and over the past week I've added enough to my tank to at least make a 1000ppm change and yet my salifert mag test will never change colour. I just bought it. Maybe I have outdated instructions?

I would try another test kit. What are you reading? How big is your system, and now much have you added? What supplement are you using?

Yes be careful on adjustments after getting a test result like that. Try a different brand, have a buddy help, or take it to a LFS.

Are you new to Salifert kits? It's easy enough to make a mistake. If it's your first time you may be able to find an online video that could show you the procedure.

Salifert also prints expiration dates on the outside of the box; make sure it isn't expired.

You may also want to a test on freshly made saltwater to see if you can get it to register.

If it still seems off, you may want to contact the company and give them the batch number to see if there were any recalls. GL.
