magnifica and gigantea

i thought i would share my tank here since it seems to fit in this subforum.

here it the main tank thread if you would like to read thru it

http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2062633

tl;dr - it is a 250 dd tank with all biological filtration under solar tubes for the main lighting. it started as a captive only, but when the 70 percs i raised started trying to kill each other, it shifted directions.

i have a magnifica anemone that has been in the tank almost a year - the remaining pair of percs host it.

here it is shortly after adding it to the tank

at about the 8 month mark, i almost lost it to a mini tank crash - large tangs dug up part of the dsb. it was so bad that i thought it may be splitting like the bubble tip did at the same time. it lost all of its tentacles and its mouth stretched from one edge to the other of its oral disk.

after some tense time and some near constant feeding of tiny meals, it is well on the way to recovery.

here it is now that the clowns have moved back in

about two months ago i had the opportunity to pick up a gigantea from a fellow reefer. it had been in a tank for several months, but was not happy with a change he made in filtration (new type of biopelets).

here is what it looked like when i added it to the tank

it soon settled in and started expanding out to it current size. i have since redone the rock work to give it plenty of space. here it is about two weeks ago

here is what it does for a couple of hours pretty much every time i do a water change - the clowns dont appreciate it too much

i took a video of it today since there was some variation in the lighting with our partly cloudy skies - i will post it when it finishes processing.

forgot to mention - the only thing besides biological filtration on the tank is a small carbon reactor that i change out every two weeks to try to cut down on chemical warfare.

here is the video i shot today

Very nice Ace. I love the two anemones. I have not keep Gigantea and Magnifica together yet, and wanted to do it in the future. If you are able to do it, then I will attempt to do it in the future.

Interesting.. I'm treaitng a Mag right now, but don't think two Gigs, and a Mag in a 150G is the best idea.. I'm going to pass, but seeing you do it in a larger system is great news!!

Your purple looks great BTW!

thanks everyone.

i decided to do a quick video of the magnifica to give an up to date look at its recovery

thanks, i raised them from fry i got from a fellow reefer. they are the reason i set up this tank in the first place :)

WOW.. This just set me...

OK... Tank re-aquascape in the works... Mentally at least.

I might have to wait till I come back off vacation in August.. WOW...

OMG...

Yeah and all the other acronyms...

thanks for the complements all.

yep, this anemone is slightly larger than the top of a 5 gallon bucket to give a little bit of perspective. if it were to completely flatten out, i think it would be 24" or more in diameter.
