Magnifica Splitting

My 3 year old purple based Magnifica appears to be splitting. As you can see from the pictures there is a 3" hole all the way through the stomach and foot all the way to the rock beneath it. I will continue to take pictures as it splits further. This anemone is about 18" when fully expanded.

How long has it taken for it to split that much? I have heard from others that they have had to 'help' the split by scission because it never finished on it's own...please do update on it's progress and thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the compliment. I just noticed it yesterday but I hadn't looked at it closely for the last couple of days. It deflated a little bit about 10 days ago but then it inflated larger than ever a few days later. It probably started around that time. I hope I don't have to help it out but I will if needed.

Did anything happen recently to stress the anemone which could have induced the split?

When my H. mags split a few years ago (two original anemones split around the same time), it took one about 24 hours and the other one almost a week. I didn't intervene.I

It takes them an extreme amount of energy to split. i believe it was months of storage from what i read. Let it go on its own, if in a few weeks its still not completely split, help it along. Just make sure to get a clean cut.

Thanks for the advice everyone. There is not much change from yesterday, maybe the hole is a little larger. I have two other healthy mags in the same 180 gallon tank, they are both looking fine. The only thing that is different is that I upgraded my skimmer to a new SWC 1A cone skimmer a few weeks ago.

When mine split, it form an O like your's then a C then the other side also break form two anemones. Then the mouth formed

I have the one already pictured and then a plain brown one and a yellow tipped one.
