Main Pump Problem

Upgrading from 60 gallon to 120 gallon with dual returns and over flow, tank 48x24x24. I was running an Eheim 1060 for the main pump. Not enough flow for dual returns. I ordered a Rio 32 high flow. It makes a fairly loud vibrating noise even when suspended. What other pump should I buy?

Thanks Bob

PS or is it possible the Rio is faulty.

I use a mag 12 on my 125g with dual overflows an dit works like a champ! No noise or heat problems

Never go with Rios. Too many people have had too many problems with them. Does your pump need to be submersible or external?

Thysrof, since you will also be using a chiller, you will need to be able to push enough water through the chiller, your best bet is to get an external pump and drill your sump. The pseidon 4 is very quiet and push 1200 gal/hr, this pump or simmilar pump like the genx 40 will be able to push water through your chiller and your dual over flow with a good turn over rate.

I agree w/ Tom about getting an external pump. Not the Poseidon though. The are water cooled so they are very quiet but expect it to heat your tank by about 3 degrees.

Two highly regarded pumps know for being quiet and reliable are iwaki and panworld which is made by an engineer who used to work for iwaki. Be sure to get a 30xlt or smaller so they dont have the extrernal fan.

Sequence pumps are the new school super pump but that would be serious overkill for a return pump.

If you really don't want to drill your sump, I'd spend the extra dough and get the ehiem 1262. They're worth the little extra cost.

I would definately drill it. It will take longer to drain the water out than to drill it. I have a bunch of hole-saws if you need to borrow one.
