Majestic gone?

Well majestic sea life has a locked sign posted by the landlord for failure to pay rent. They cleared out the shop.
The problem is that they owed me about $160 in livestock credit for some purple queen anthias that died on me about 4 months ago. They kept giving me the runaround about how they couldn't order a fish for me because their air conditioner was broke and they couldn't give me dry goods because of their "owner's policy".
I left several messages to have the owner call me and they never did. I know my money is gone  but does anyone have any ideas about how to get some kind of livestock/ dry goods out of these people. They took an entire store worth of equiptment and Tucson isn't all that big.

Unless you have something in writing, it would be impossible. If you have something in writing acknowldging the debt and know the name of the person who owned the business, small claims court would be the only way. $160 is alot of money for a working guy, but not enough to spend alot of time on. Even if you got a judgement in small claims, they can still ignore it and then you have to go back to court to try to get some kind of relief, such as garnishment or property settlement. WAYYYYY too much work for that much money, and probably never see anything out of it.

majestic sea life should have been put out of bussiness years ago. Every plague of pests my tank ever had came from that store in one way or another. Sorry about your money but I am glad to see them gone.

Here is the way I look at it. Now all the other stores will get all of Majestic's business so they will have a higher demand and carry more products. Its a win - win. No more Majestic and we will have more readily available at better businesses,

I agree with Akimbo, plus I feel the other stores never tried to take advantage of their customers the way Majestic did. When you hear/read all those bad stories about LFS I always think about Majestic.

Yeah. And Rob at SWA is a good guy and if they dont have it he works to get it for you and they run great specials there all the time. I've never felt like I was getting taken when I've gone in there like I did with Majestic, or that the place was unclean and nasty like I did with Tropical Kingdom

Pretty much the only competition, if you can call it that is Southwest Vs. Oasis. After seeing some of the tanks that Majestic set up, I would be scared to look at how there store behind the scenes looks. I would never buy a business that treated so many customers badly and how they made people feel like they are getting ripped off. This is a hobby and the when you own a store that is hobby related, your enthusiasm and care for it should spread to the hobbyist, or spur more people to take interest in the hobby. You should never steer people away or set them up for failure where they waste their money and get out of the hobby. Its not like they own a service that all people need day in and day out like a car mechanic. People don't have to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on fish/corals. That is why it is called a hobby. At the end of the day, Majestic is a great example of poor customer service and this is what will happen! Good riddens!

They might have been high on coral prices, but they never charged extra for the flat worms. They would gladly replace them if they didn't make it the first time. Hadn't been there in 5 years but back then always felt like I was at a Car Dealership. They would size you up everytime and decide what price you would fall for, I remember the $50 Skunk cleaner shrimp

It doesn't matter what store im at, it makes me uneasy when I get coral prices. I wish they could be marked so I dont feel like there just making up a price off the top of there head. I'm not saying they all do that, but it feels like it. I thought it was funny when I asked about a blue linkia and they told me $75. I almost laughed in there face.

I usually keep a few online stores prices bookmarked on my phone and I pull up the coral I'm looking at and ask what the price is. If its more than about a 35% markup I dont buy it. Until its on sale!

I'm not so sure much business will be shifted to the other stores. Most of the Majestic's business was from maintenance accounts and high-end setups.

I do not think Rob or Hector do much of this. If they do, they will likely get most of that business. Or, this would be a good time to hire a few people to pickup this aspect of the hobby.

I think Phil will benefit the most from this closure. You guys remember Phil. He co-owned Aquatic Oasis with Zach. I miss those guys.
Cheers

Zach was the brains on the high end setups. Not sure if phil knows how to setup a reef. He was more freshwater as I understand it. Picked up a ton of services over 2 months ago. They stopped servicing tanks 2-3 months back when they laid off all service guys. We have a full time service guy on payroll and looking for a second, I do all the high end installs personally and have been keeping lee mar and myself busy making custom tanks :)
