Making everyone happy...Tangs

hermitage

So I'm restarting my 210. My wife wants a Yellow Tang, my stepdaughter wants a Hippo Tang (figured I'd get the yellow bellied version), I want a Powder Blue...

Anyone have any experience with these 3 fish together? What do you all think my chances are of beoing successful with these 3? Should I add them in any specific order? Ultimately, I want mostly LPS and some SPS.

I also plan on housing the following...

9 Blue Chromis
5 Resplendent Anthias (1 male, 4 females)
1 Purple Firefish
1 Helfrichi Firefish
2 Ocellaris Clownfish
2 Midas Blennies

...and also various shrimp, and cleanup crew.

Thanks all.

Those three would be a good choice together (all different genus), but it's best to add PBTs to more mature tanks, or so I've heard.

I'm by no means a tang expert, but based on what I've learned about tangs you should be ok since they come from different genus. Yellow- zebrasoma, Hippo-paracanthurus, Powder B - acanthurus. 210g should give them enough room as well.

PBT is far from timid. My 5" PBT is surely the king of the tank and there was a 8" resident chevron in there when I added him.

Could have easily lost them both as a result of trying as it was a ugly couple of weeks before things fell into place between them. All is well now and they are pals, but just letting you know the word "timid" and PB do not belong in the same sentence.

The PB has incidentally killed half of all the fish I have tried adding since. 3/6. None of them tangs...mostly wrasses. I always do the mirror trick and it keeps him pretty occupied......but he still finds time in between fighting himself to smack the new guy around and if they can live past the first 48 hours of abuse they are fine and he will lay off. At least that has been the results I have witnessed.

Very interested in the same variety of tangs, do you guys think they cn make it in a 150? it's a custom made 70x24x22 so it's much longer than the regular 150s
Sorry to hijack the thread.

That should be an attractive mix.

Ya..thanks...I'm going for color and activity. i like the combination of small and large fish. Hopefully all will get along.

those tangs should be fine in the 210 and the 150 but depends on how much hiding and swiming room you can provide for them.

I would add in this order
Regal - any size
Yellow - small to med
Powder Blue - smaller or about the same size as the Regal at time of adding

That's the order I added mine and they all seem happy and tend to hang around each other.

My tank is 84X24X36
tangs - in order added, size when added, and now
Regal, 2" now 4 1/2"
3 yellows, 2 1/2" now 4 1/2"
PBT, 4" still 4" only in tank about 2 months

Great info! Thanks for the post. Nobody really have anything negative to say about my livestock list. I think it's a go!

Now that the 3 Tangs have the green light...what order would you add this entire stock list? Now I'm being a PIA I know...but the info you guys /gals are sharing is great.

1 Hippo Tang
1 Yellow Tang
1 Poder Blue Tang
9 Blue Chromis
5 Resplendent Anthias (1 male, 4 females)
1 Purple Firefish
1 Helfrichi Firefish
2 Ocellaris Clownfish
2 Midas Blennies

What order would you add to the tank? I'm thinkng Anthias last, the more mature the tank the better.
