Last I heard the Gem Tangs were going for $3,000 and up. If you can get them. Most are contraband.

I saw several of these at the Chatanooga aquarium recently, along with several other varieties of sea dragons. I heard second hand from a former marine vet that they go for 20,000. good god.

I think those sea dragons might be as well. I remember reading an article about them, and they're only supposed to be used in educational facilities, public aquariums, etc.

yes they are illegal to own and capture because of the fact that they are endangered. i was working with perry institute for marine science when i was in my marine biology classes at college and we did some studies on them. very unique creatures.

so then that means he can be fined for having them in his shop? WOW that would sux. i mean you spend 20,000 on them and then they just take them from you and you get find. wut a bad one.

yea i know. its not right, however because they are showing good signs of recovery in the wild, they might be able to get them in limited quantities. Im not sure of how the laws are configured now, but when we tried to get a pair for research we were told that if we wanted to do it "under the table" we would beon our own and be the only responsible parties that the supplier couldnt be held responsible. its defiantely a nice creature.
