mandarin ready?

Exotic has been carrying Tigger-Pods lately. I grabbed two bottles the other day just to keep my system stocked. I hear they work well.

It's also possible to get a mandarin that eats non-live food. I've witnessed my spotted dragonette eat frozen mysis one time. My girlfriend says she's seen her do it too. We've both also seen the dragonette eat flying fish roe. The majority of her diet is pods, though.

Is there any way to increase pod production other than buying pods? I started a refuge for exactly this purpose.

Yes refugeium is perfect for pod production.

I have a Mandarin that eats PE Mysis like its going out of style! It took about 2 weeks to get him used to it but now when he sees the feeding tube he gets all excited!

IME if you have enuf pods to keep him fat for the time it takes to teach him to eat frozen food (apx 2 weeks)I think your in good shape!

If you want to come over to my house and see how i feed him that would be cool w/ me.

I have noticed since building a in tank fuge my pods population are climbing BIG TIME.

Wait till the tank lights are off for a couple of hours and take a pen light and look on the sandbed under the rock ledges and cracks. I did this a few weeks ago and mah gawd they were EVERYWHERE !!

This is such a common question that there is a link on the home page for Reef Central: Mandarin FAQ Good info there.

They are a beautiful fish and it's sad to watch one starve to death. Be sure to look for a dragonette with a good belly, many times they are all sucked in, most scooter dragonettes I see in LFS look like this and are probably doomed.

Good luck!
