has anybody tried this combo? i understand that a spearer probably wouldnt work but what about a smasher... i can get a yellow watchman goby free, but the only place i have room for him is in my mantis tank. so has anybody tried this? bad or good ending?

thanks all

do it dude! i have a yellow watchman in my mantis tank and he dosent bother my goby. however there will alwayse be the risk that the mantis will take him down. but mine co-exist fine. plus he is free, so if he does get smashed your not out of pocket. its a win situation for you either way it goes...
sorry for my bad spelling...

risky. water column dwellers fare better than benthic fish with a smasher. might work, but i wouldnt do it myself.

Go for it if it is free. The guy from TBS reports keeping gobies and mantises together frequently with no problems. I wouldn't pay 20$ for a fish that has such a low chance of survival logically, but given the anecdotal info and its free...well no worse than a damsel getting killed really.

MY mantis found the YWG an expencive meal.
If you do try it make sure the gobie is at least as large as the mantis. The one I tried was a little feller, and he didn't make it through the night.

ok so its been about a week now since i pt my yellow watchman into his new home with my 2 mantis shrimps and so far they seem to work out with each other great. the fish likes to come up from behind the mantis meal and attack it while the mantis is smacking it around.... pretty cool to watch.

My Peacock, Lefty, lives with a Jeweled Blenny. It wandered into Lefty's burrow once, I heard a crack and it flew out and never ventures near the cave of death again. Now it wanders around eating algae on the other side of the tank.
