Mantis shrimp in a nano-cube

i have crabs

New member
Well I just might be getting a great deal on a nano-cube, and my LFS has a beautiful green mantis shrimp for sale, so I couldnââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t help but think how good those two things might go together in my room.

I have not read much on mantis shrimp yet, but I know there are two types, smasher and slasher.

First question, regardless of which one the mantis is, do you think it will do ok in a nano cube? I thought I read somewhere that they can actually break glass.

Second, never had a nano-cube, is there anywhere to put in chaeto like a compartment for a fuge and a fuge light? Without making any severe mods?

Any advice is welcome.

Thanks

The slasher are pretty rare. I had a pseudosquilla ciliata which I ordered under the pretense of "Lime Green Mantis". He was really cool until he died from palmetto bug fumigation. (I covered the tank and everything but it wasn't enough). Now I have an N. Oerstedii which is smaller but he's a ferocious smasher. From what I understand breaking tanks is pretty rare and if the nano is acrylic(which I thought they were) then you've got no worries. Actually I think a mantis would be awesome in a nano reef tank! Best of luck

I have a large peacocks in two nano cubes a 12DX and 24DX. They've rearly hit the glass and only during the first couple of weeks. I think if you do harrass it or let other people put their hands on the glass they will not hit the glass.

Gumby, welcome to the club. Watch your fingers. Capt. Kaos
lives a good life 5 gal. nano. Alittle sand some rocks and any
anything else you like its good to go. Give it something to kill
every now and again makes it happy.

Nope. I once had a 4 inch peacock (now in a 24DX) in a 10 All-Glass tank as I didn't have any other place. It hit the glass twice...when kids put their hands on the tank. I held my breath but nothing happen. I think they have to be really big to break the glass.
