marine magic dosing pump review

yeah the ammount that the tank uses can get tricky and there are prob. alot of ways to figure out how much it is using. this is my way of figureing it out.

I will take test readings of alk and cal. once a day for about 4 days and then when I find out how much it is dropping on average per day that is where I my dosing ammount. then I will test once a week just to see if my dosing it keeping up with the tank or if I need to adjust.

i did that, and im getting about .8dkh per day or so. in two days i lost 1.6dkh so the solution i made up consisted of 50ml R/O to 1gm of pot ash. this equates to .3-.4dkh in my tank. i am dosing 4x at 6,12,6,12 at a medium setting getting about 20ml in one minute. i checked today and it was at 9dkh.. so im gonna keep an eye on it. i have over a grand in coral and dont wanna lose it.

Hmm that's interesting, id rather go with the marine magic brand since it seems to be doing well for everyone. What price should I expect for the 3 head doser

so i think im close to figuring it out. as of now ive checked 4 times before the doser comes on my alk is 8.3 and after its 8.5dkh . so now that i am consistant im gonna sprea that over 12 hours @ 20 seconds an hour to keep the swing even lower. sound right?

Ok it's just I think the GHL ones are >50000 hrs so it seems strange that there is such a huge difference. Or maybe that's the unit and not the pumps?

I would really like to see a pump such as the GHL, bubble magnus, ect. last 50000 hours. where did you read that? I couldn't find anything about how many hours the GHL pumps last.

these types of pumps ar not made to run for hours a day, they are more for just dosing cal. alk. and mag. along with vodka vinegar ect. things that only take a few min. to dose. for something needing to be turned on for hours per day there are better pumps for that but much more costly.

Wonder who tests that stuff. 50,000 hrs running 1 hour a day is 137 years. That is total bullcrap. Heck, led lights claim up to 50,000 hrs and have a hard time doing that. Those little 12v motor will never get over a few hundred hours. These things are cheap, only a small bushing, no bearings. Brush life is what probably determines when they quit. They are just as cheap if not the same in the profilux and ghl.

Ok thanks guys. Yeah I would imagine they all have the same life regardless of make. Think I'll order the new marine magic so. Thanks. 50000 came from a google search but could have related to something else completly. Thanks again.

these are good for 150ish hours . 4 minutes a day would equal about 6.164 years or 2250 days on the first set of heads. so im gona say that the unit will have paid for its self by then

I just bought one of the new style ones a few minutes ago. I can't wait to get it, but it says on the Ebay shipping thing that it will be in July. Does it really take that long?

Just got my shipping notice on the brand new three channel pump. Can't wait for it to get here.

The motors are 30 bucks to replace BTW and you can get them from marine magic. My two channel has been running for months with no problems, I just wanted to add a mag dosing channel.

ok now im worried. for the last week i have been at a steady 8.3-8.5 range. today i tested 11.5 dkh.... i dont understand what happened. same solution, same time, same rate. so now i turn the doser off untill it goes down. i leave for puerto rico in 4 days. please help~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

well i finally broke down and ordered one tonight. the last straw was an alk swing i had last
month that did a number on one of my favorite SPS and stressed a few others. I will hopefully
not be a lazy bum and take some pics and give a review as this seems to be a ?newer? model.

it is this model:
