Marineland Marine series tanks

Does anyone know the internal dimensions of the marineland stands? I know they are a bit short, but I was wondering if some of the more popular skimmers could fit under them.

SPStoner, do you know the terms and conditions of the limited lifetime warranty or the one year warranty..........................If the lifetime warranty isn't that great, I may just build my own stand.

The stands are made with 3/4" plywood. So, you can pretty much count on the stand having the same inside dimensions as the tank.

Here are some shots of the inside of the 300 stand and hood so you can get an idea..

Thanks Mike660r!

I know you built your own stand. Was there a particular reason beyond aesthetics?..................plywood perhaps? Just wondering if you think the could be structural issues.

Thinking about the 36" cube. For lighting I was thinking about a luminarc 3 with some t5s around it, or maybe with t5s on the sides only.

The canopy does not look very deep. Anyone have dimensions on it?Think I could fit the lighting I have in mind in there? I'm thinking even if it just barely fits the light will be awfully close to the water, and there will be no way I can get around it to do maintenance/place new corals.

Is see the luminmax elite is only 5.3" inches high which is a little more shallow than the 8.5" luminarc, maybe that would be a better choice. Will it have enough spread?

Ideas?

Adam

The stands are 25 1/8" inside height. The canopies are about 9" to the rim of the tank, and about 10.5" to the water surface.

The LL warranty is pretty solid if anything happens due to manufacturing defect such as leaks, etc. What is not covered is anything due to faulty handling or installation. They require quite a bit of documentation on warranty cases and often will send someone to inspect. As for the stands being structurally sound, I can assure everyone that they are. The liability issues dictate that these stands were extensively tested prior to going to market. As mentioned ealrier in this thread, people that build their own stand tend to way over-engineer.

I went with a custom made stand and cannopy with real oak.
Went a tad taller 30 inches and 14 inches tall for the cannopy.
Got for the same price s the stand alone.
Oh yeah the doors on the side was a must for the custom stand as well.

One complaint I have with the Marineland stand is I had to remove the back center brace to fit a decent size sump under tank. Even the knock out side panels were not big enough to get a 50 gallon tank through. I had to remove back brace and then reinstall once sump was in place.

The high end stand and canopy they make is very nice IMO.

Is there any particle board or OSB in the stand? I can't imagine that a standard stand being factory knocked out can be that "high end" ... visibly appealing sure, but high end? What are they made out of?

The side openings on the Monterey stands is 17.25w x 22.75h. As for the materials the stands are made of, there does not appear to be any particle board or OSB, but I will check tomorrow with the plant and let you know.

Bottom line, it's not fine furniture, but does look nice and is structurally sound. Plus, it does keep the warranty valid which is a nice plus.

I beleive A 50 gallon tank measures 36x 18 and could not fit through. There is no particle board that I can see on my Montery Stand, I agree looks nice no complaints otherwise.

I took a good look at the factory stand/canopy at a LFS in Lakeland, FL. It looked top quality. It was very short. Perfect viewing height from a couch.

When we say high end, we mean the nicer of the two furniture lines they have available for these tanks. They also make the standard pine stand which is the lower cost option.

I didn't see any structural issues with the stand. It was just too low for my taste and the canopy was not large enough to house the MH setup I wanted.

Agreed. And width the depth of the tank, anything that makes reaching in easier is good (and I'm 6'4").

But isn't the shadowing effect distracting?

Yes, high end is relative here. The panels are plywood. The trim and some of the door panels appear to be solid wood. Still better then those crap AGA particle board stands. Even true high end cabinet makers will use plywood.

i checked out the 300 yesterday at a lfs i love the tank, the stand
measured 30.5 inches, the owner stated that he can have the stand made for me at 36inches for about 2 hundered more.

But now i was thinking maybe the stand that comes with the tank is lowered so that you can reach in. if the stand was a 36 inch higher that might be a problem, trying to reach and place your LR
or coral.

i'm going to upgrade to the 300 series this time next year.

Hey guys do you think 3 lumenbrite pendents would work on this size tank, using 250wt or 400wt?

+1 on fitting trough the door. The standard front door is 36". I think internal doors average around 30". I also was initially worried about the stand height, but am now completely happy. The prettiest part of the coral is usually on the top. I deep tanks(front to back) the farther back the coral is placed, the harder it is to see the top of the coral, so the shallow tank actually makes for a better viewing experience IMHO

Actually all the stands are 29" high (to top of trim), so he may not have the actual Marineland stand there. They were made to that height, as mentioned, to accomodate most interior doors.

I think three Lumenbrites will be great for the 300.
