Mark's 150 gallon

I got shocked feeding the fish this evening. This and the odd circuit breaker trip a week ago add up to what I will be doing this weekend. I can replace just about everything except the skimmer pump. Please don't be the skimmer pump!

I removed all my old circulation pumps in the sump. tested with everything on including the heater and could not get shocked, even with the old pumps in. Hmmm.

I did a 5% water change yesterday and added Polyfilter which seemed to immediately improve the extension of a few non SPS corals. Overdose of something? Time to order a Triton test.

Today is clean skimmer and add at least one more Tunze to the display to help even out flow. MOAR FLOW! The clowns are between eggs so I can clean both MP40 baskets as well.

I do believe some of the issues may be related to lazy reefer syndrome. :o

Were you touching your light fixture and the water at the same time? Some of these fixtures are poorly grounded...

Did you have shoes on when you got shocked?

Hey Mark, love the acro pics mate and glad most things are going well. Were you using the LC when things went bad a while back. If so did you stop dosing for a while and then start again. Just trying to see if the LC really is causing the random issues.

I think you should look into the electrical thing a bit more, could be a heater if it's only intermittent. None of us want to see you getting hurt buddy :)

Looking good mark!

Ups and downs and in between in this hobby is almost expected but your tank is doing great !!

I'm looking at the placement of your Red Robin and the colors on it , mine is pretty pale and pretty high up so it seems it dosent care that much for light . Gonna try to lowere it some .

Hi Matt,

yep, that was it. I had to touch a metal wire used to hang the front BML strip to get the shock. I sometimes brush it with my right arm as I'm feeding with my left hand, sending the shock through my chest. It's the only way to go. :|

Slippers. :D

Hi Andrew, thanks for stopping by. I only started using LC after the crash and I credit it, and the stability it provided, for gettign me this far. I think my problems began when I upped the dose to try and drop PO4 to .03 from .06. Dumb thing to do, and possibly introduced a significant amount into the display. I'm down to a single drop a day now and will remain here to see what happens.

Hi Arlin.

Mine is mostly under the middle divider, 290 PAR in the center and 350 or so at the left edge. In lower PAR it turns a deep red/grey color, very unique but not overly attractive. I'm not sure what it likes but I know I can frag it without killing the parent so I will probably create a frag and once encrusted mount it somewhere else to see what happens. It has also killed branches on the Katropora it's growing near so it 'seems' like a pretty rugged acro.

That's not a pump, this is a pump!

Got this on sale over Christmas and just now opened it up. So big, and really nice super wide flow. Things are moving, including the sand! I like it. Makes the MP40 look like an MP10.

Awesome. Just awesome.
Just for fun, post an fts from 1 year ago.
When are you getting new corals?!?

Love the FTS nice job.

Thanks!

Wow, the tank has really filled in and looks gorgeous!

Thanks Matt, so far so good. :)

Holy bejesus that thing is full. Great job man. You and your tank really do inspire me.

Thanks, glad to hear it. SPS tanks teach us patience, that's for damn sure. :)

Awesome. Just awesome.

I have one, pictures below. The itch was too strong.

You make me want to re do my rock work.... tank is doing its thing for sure congrats!

Thanks! All random sticks stuck here and there and they happened to work out, and it's mostly stable ... mostly.

So I visited the nearby LFS for 2 cleaner shrimp, 2 peppermint shrimp ... and their top shelf of corals was 3 for $50 with one lone acro.

Bought 2 zoas for my other tank and this one. It's green, but I've had this shade of green before turn a cool blue so I'm hopeful. 20 minute Bayer dip, close inspection and scrape, double rinse and in. Breaking the frag off the plug is the safest method but I didn't do it.

After the T5's shut off I see this.

The new growth is crazy glowy.

I don't know what to do with the slimer. I love the natural growth but it's going to start hitting a lot of corals in a few weeks. A good problem to have, of course, but I dread having to deal with it.

The milli up top is showing new growth and some bright pink under blue LED.

The Red Robin also has some pink florescence under blue LED, though not nearly as much.

The entire reef is looking crazy awesome Mark, just blows me away how obvious the growth on everything is, let alone the colors - very inspiring to me mate
