I am planning on going but only for about 45min to an hour or so. I am going to drop off some things for the raffle and swap.

Thats what I am planning on doing as well. I might stay for the first bonus round and then take off after that. I have a hard time finding items at a swap. They usually end up in a frag tank :(

Besides, its always more fun to give than to take ;)

Its not much of an update, but I tested my alk for the first time in a month: 9.5 :) I do not know the last time I have tested anything else. The tank has been on autopilot.

I have been dosing vodka for a month and using porbidio about the same amount of time. I did not really stick to the regimen many have used, I took it slower than most and never really peaked. I have no idea if it is working or not, but I told myself I would give it 90 days. This tank has always had a PO4 issue and the last couple of times I have checked it, its been .07-.08 and I am good with that. The colors are a little better that before and things are really starting to fill in (or maybe thats because I still have more pieces to add)

The fish are all doing well and I added a pair of diamond gobys since I lost my other. I saw one of them for the 1st time today :p

Nice! Do you plan to dose vodka and prodibio routinely? Man, I was looking at your frag tank pic...those helios look pretty sweet. If that's what it looks like, I like it! Too bad they don't come in 150s.

Mark, we need more pictures!! (okay, maybe just me ;)) Oh boy, I'm off I need to wake up in 3hrs.

I am not quite sure Jay if I will continue the vodka past this month. I do want to dose probidio for enough time to see if I can recognize any changes in my nutrients. I do not want to lose the rich colors in the tank.

I was reading a thread about lighting on another board about lighting intensity vs photoperiod and that reminded me that I had lessened my photoperiod to 4 hours on each dual ballast as I did not want the corals to bleach after all they had been to. I guess its time to increase the photoperiod to at least 5 hours:)

10am- VHO's
11am-outside 2 halides on
3 pm-inside halides on
4:30pm- outside 2 halides off
8:00pm- inside 2 halides off
9:00pm VHO's off

Pete, That is the LE Robokaki that was browned out a bit as I had it under a rock for awhile. It glows :)

Mark,
Could you give a link to the linghting thread you were talking about? PM if need be. I'm wondering...were they saying longer photo period over intensity or vice versa?

Thanks,

Chad

Chad, Let me see if I can explain myself a little bit more. A coral can only accept so much light before it has too much light. On the other side of that, a coral needs enough light to survive and prosper. I am more about colorful corals that the rate that they grow; saying this, I have tried to find the sweet spot of the least amount of halides I can use and still get great colors and decent growth. I have ran my halides for 8 hours a day in the past, but I did not really see any difference between 8 hours of halides and 6 hours of halides. I am sure there is, but since I can still achieve what I want using the lighting schedule I have used, I will probably keep following the schedule.

Photoinhibition is a reduction in a plant's (or other photosynthetic organism's) capacity for photosynthesis caused by exposure to strong light (above the saturation point). Photoinhibition is not caused by high light per se, but rather absorption of too much light energy compared with the photosynthetic capacity, i.e. any excess energy that the photosystem cannot handle is damaging.

This is the basic principle that I follow :p

Glad to return from vacation and see your tank is bouncing back incredibly well.

Thanks Mike. Your first set of pictures were really cool. Thanks for sharing. Now start processing the rest of your pictures

I am looking for the link to the blades from ebay. I seemed to have lost it. :(

Mark - What blades from the dremel are you talking about?

Jeff, They are the rotary diamond blades that work pretty well for fragging.

I went to a LFS to meet up with a friend and was surprised to see these alive from a shipment about 10 days ago. After watching them eat a bit, I decided to give them another try. Here is a shot in their acclimation container even though its not the best picture

And since I had the camera out, Here is an updated shot of my daughter Emma's Jedi Mind Trick Montipora; no macro, just a basic colony shot

Shoot I'm surprised you found those guys too! I've been asking around for those for quite some time now. Nice coral shot. Looking good.

Thanks Leonardo. I tried a few back when the tank was still fairly new. They were small and I had them shipped. I was lucky enough to find these local and they are what I consider medium in size. They are one of my favorite schooling fish :)

Here is a shot from when I attempted them when I was setting up the tank.
