I built the frame and I have been Robs helper doing the finish work. He really is an artist. Stuff that I would of said was good enough, was never good enough for Rob. If you could figure out the transport, it would be worth having him build your stand.

Final decided on the return pump...

Great job on the stand and you are going to love that pump. Its really quiet and more powerful than you think. A local wholeseller had one on his tank and spoke very highly of the pump.

Thanks NA...it really seems to be a well made pump. And the price was very reasonable.

Spent a few hours the last couple of days and buffed out the sump and added the baffles. Due to the inner panel of the tank having a bow, the baffles didn't come out as nice as I would of liked, but should be functional. Will leak test it tomorrow. Had to use Weldon 16 for sure.

Nice looking stand, good work. I like how the doors are flush with the face. Great display also, I really like the euro bracing, looks clean!

Thanks for the kind words!

Question:

This weekend I'm looking to pick up the foam board to place under the (acrylic) DT and sump. Can anyone recommend a brand and thickness. Was thinking of 1/2". Hope to get HD or Lowes to cut if for me too.

Thanks...

Anyone..heading to the store now...

I'm working on the plumbing design and parts list for my DT down to my basement sump.

I have some questions,

I plan on going Herbie with full siphon and dry emergency. The central overflow came with two 1 inch bulkheads and two 1/2 return bulkheads. In-regard to the drains is there any advantage of going 1.5 inch pipe before (overflow) 1.5 inch pipe after the bulkheads.

On the return, I was planning of running 1.5 inch (pump use 1.5 inch output), up under the tank and whey it off to two 3/4 inch before and after the 1/2 return bulkhead.

Does the narrow bulkheads defeat the larger pipe?

Should drain gate valve be upstairs under tank or in basement just before sump? Used to dial in flow.

Does this sound reasonable?

Thanks

Yes, it will limit your flow. A lot of the resistance will be deflected back to the pump in the form of back-pressure. There's not a lot you can do with an undersized bulkhead.

You should have both a ball valve and a gate valve, the ball valve should be downstairs and used for emergency OMG shut-off. The gate valve should be upstairs where you can see the changes to the flow that you're trying to dial in... and for emergency OMG shut-down.

Reef addiction and "sense" are mutual oppositions.

Great build. Amazing looking stand. Have you decided on a color for it?

Thanks! Its all cherry so it will get clear coats....I hope to give it enough coats to make it have a hard shine finish. Weather has been too cold to finish.

Thanks for the reply. Great idea about the OMG ball valve. I will definitely do that.

Do you think I should use the larger pipe or reduce it to more closely match the bulkheads?

Thanks again.
