Mark's new build

Hi Andrew, great to see you here on my thread. To answer your questions:
1. The CeramEco rock was packaged extremely well, pieces were wrapped in foil and then the whole box was filled with expanding foam, so there was no way for rock to move, or brake. It was insulated very well from the edges of box, so I would not worry of any damage , even during rough shipping.
2.http://www.xaquashop.it/store/category.php?id_category=33

This is the place I got it from, I also emailed their customer service for questions, they are very helpful and fast responding to customer needs.
3.I did try to lower the unit as you say, but with my tank being 32in. front to back I did not get complete coverage, also when fixture was low, the led light was not spread out either, causing like concentrated light beam effect. ( I hope you get what I am trying to say). When I lifted my fixture to about 10in.of water level, everything looked so much better.
4. There is only one wire coming from this fixture, it plugs from the side. Very thick cable, but very soft.

Hope this helps.

What are the dimensions of your ATO tank? How many gallons? I love that it fits in there so well, and actually looks like you wont have to fill it everyday.

I got my pieces from cerameco thru aqua-tecture . com and they packed it the same way. It was a pain to get it out. LOL

here are mine

My ATO is custom made for me 24Lx8Wx16H , it holds around 13 gal., it should last me about 10 days before another fill up. Yeah, the CeramEco rock is nice, and packaged very well.

How are you liking the powercone? I really like mine. Dead silent and makes some nasty skimmate.

So far so good. I only have it for about a week, but it has nice thick foam head, and pulling some stuff out of sterile tank with only ceramic rock. Can't wait to have it stocked, and see how it performs then. Dead silent!!!

Thank you very for the reply Mark. Greatly appreciated!

I understand your light dilemma ... very interesting indeed considering you purchased the 8 bulb unit. I too would have thought it would be more than enough. Glad to see you have solved it though.

What were some reasons you went for the Xaqua INOUT system? Are you happy so far with it?

Thanks

I saw the Xaqua couple of years ago on one of the European forums and always like it. The biggest reason I went with it was , that I hate inside overflow box, it looks awful and takes space inside the tank. I did not want to go with outside coast to coast overflow, because I would need additional 4-5in. behind the tank, Xaqua really solved both problems for me. I only need couple of inches behind tank to install them, and it does not take any real estate inside. Very easy to clean, strainer comes right off, and snaps back on. I am running about 1200 gph. through both of them, so I get good turn over and good surface skimming. They are not silent !!! I hear little bit of gurgling , but not very loud, definitely a lot quieter then durso overflow. If you want complete silence like Herbie style, this is not for you. So far I am very happy with this overflow style and I would do it again without a doubt.

I got them about 4 weeks ago, before that my friend who owns his LFS, kept them in QT for 6 weeks for me. They are very active and eat like pigs. :). I waited 8 months for them , since I put the request.

Right now I am only running leds , since I have no corals at all. They go to about 40 percent during a day. They are still bright, I guess when I stock corals I will start with about 30 percent and go from there. This is one powerful light fixture, got to be careful not to burn corals.

Nice Japanese masked pair! Ive been searching for awhile now. Came across a male about a year ago but passed because I really want a pair.

Is the surface skimming up to snuff on the xaqua?

Thanks,I waited for this pair for a while. Yes, the Xaqua performs very well, surface skimming and all is very good. I am pushing about 1200-1300 gph from my return pump. I would recommend it to anyone, especially if you can take a little noise. Not very loud, but I can hear some water gurgling, tried to adjust flow and pipes position to eliminate it, but still hear some. I guess, I am just obsessed because all other equipment is silent.
