Mars Aqua Chinese LED review (Ebay)

I am finding several similar fixtures on Ebay.

How important is Wifi connectivity?

I currently have Dual 250W SE MH on a simple on/off timer.

The fixture that I am looking at is easily capable of running on a Dawn/Daylight/Dusk mode using simple timers. It also has a moonlight mode. If I can easily implement the moonlight mode into the timer setup, I'm not sure that I would need the wifi connectivity even though it would be neat to have.

This is the fixture I am looking at...

But I'm confused
They have moonlights, but no on/off switch or power cord for them?
How will you be able to put them on a timer without a way to control when they come on?

That's an excellent question, one which I sent to them hoping for a positive answer.

Awesome, looking forward to the answer! Very confusing because if setting channel 1 / 2 on separate timers, then the unit technically has no power for the moonlight

If I was to run these units over a 30inch tank would I need to change to optics to get the penetration? I will be trying to grow sps 2/3rd of the way down.

I believe the optics are better for penetration and not as great for spread. My tank is 43" Deep and I grow corals on the lower 1/3 no problem

I got my cob led today. So far pretty impressed with the amount of light it produces. I have it set to where the dimmer is just on and no more than that. Pretty scared I'm going to fry something. I need to borrow a par meter for these.

Build quality is nice. The fans are a bit loud but not more than my kids or tv noise.

The cob style is producing a lot of shimmer and I'll update on color separation after I used them a bit.

I am having an issue with the wifi on board I can't seem to connect or find my router with the app and I can't tell if me light is connecting to my router or phone. It's a Chinese app with minimal instructions.

Bagabaga, could you post a link to where you got that light? I definitely want to look into it but when I search for Cob led I can't find anything. Thanks!

So I have a 48x24x24 and want to get 3x 165w Mars Aqua. However, I want to have a timer I can simulate sunrise/sunset etc.. from 7am - 11pm. Set and forget.

Any ideas??

I could alternatively get an LED panel from makemyled.com.au which has 60 set points throughout the day for light, but it's almost 3x the cost....

I do not have an APEX etc..

The wifi on these is wifi direct which mean they enjoy their own wifi you need to connect to with your phone. Not yet to your WiFi.

I can't figure out the wifi on this new unit. I'm emailing with the manufacturer because it's not connecting to the light.

There's no troubleshooting guide for these.

I'll make a video of the connection process later today.

Update: it works now, I set my timers and levels to very low for now and it's connecting properly.

So I am thinking of getting a pair of the black boxes and changing out some led's. Question for those that have done this, when I search ebay for the led's I find them listed in a "range". For example if I want specifically a 12000k led they sell them as 10000k-15000k. I can't choose a 12000k led.

Are you finding the exact wavelength you want? Also, is everyone replacing their led's with epistar and bridgelux only or have some gone with generics? If the latter, how have they held up?

I ordered these when I was going to modify my marsaqua. But right before, I upgraded & purchased used programmable ones (different company named ones) off a local reefer.
Deliver was fast on these! About 1.5 week total from UK to my house near Los Angeles. Look to be pretty high quality too!

------------

Since I now have programmable versions, love to hear everyones input on schedule! This is what I was thinking of running. Any input?
(edit: these are also with the 90degree secondary optics removed, so the 100% is NOT as bright as it would have been with them still on)

Thanks!
