Mate for C. interrupta

Humaguy: you certainly have the right attitude about this, but I think that for her own protection, Karen should go a route that allows the "investors" or "raffle purchasers" as the case may be (I like the raffle concept best), to know how much is being raised and for what purpose so that she can be as transparent as possible. This will avoid some disgruntled or just ill informed person down the road complaining about something and making a big stink, here or elsewhere, and turning a great idea with the best altruistic purposes into a mess.

Whatever direction you do decide to go Karen, think it through and let us know. I would be tremendously excited to be part of The Interrupta Project with no expectation of anything other than following your progress, sharing in your successes (and possible failures) and learning your techniques. If I can get a captive bred Interrupta out of it at some future date -- bonus!

If live aquaria will consider shipping to Hawaii, perhaps donations can be made directly to them. That will "save" any processing fees. IMHO, it may be better to think of this as a gift rather than an investment. Then, if successful, Karen could gift back a credit to those who want to buy a fish in the future.

We would be happy to be included in donating to this project. We get so much pleasure from this hobby, this is a good opportunity to give back a little something. Without pioneers like Karen, who put the time and effort into advancing husbandry, I'd probably still have only goldfish!

I really hope this works out. It's really kind of exciting!

Well said Denise, my feelings exactly :)

I strongly agree on this Paka. As someone in business, the donations need to be treated as a gift without any requirements of pay back. We should throw out any notion of an "investor."

If you so happen to want to keep a list of people who donated and give them a credit down the road (if you're successful), do so without feeling obligated.

Well put, my sentiments as well. I'm happy to donate without anything expected in return except perhaps some new knowledge in the hobby.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I really appreciate it and it helps a lot!
I've heard of another donation web site option that I will look into. Sounds like it will work well for this project. Fingers crossed.

+1... If I had your Paypal address, you'd already have my $!

I received a very nice and informative message from Kevin Kohen at Live Aquaria/Divers Den. He had good news in that they are willing to make an exception and ship the C. interrupta to Hawaii if we reach our funding goal and can purchase it. The possibility of shipping an interruptus from Asia to Hawaii is also being looked into by another wholesaler and I'll let you know about that if it becomes an option.

I'm learning a lot about these "crowd funding" sites and the one that I had referred to in my last post is no longer in service. I hope to have one ready soon on indiegogo and will let you know as soon as it's up.

I have to say that the responses in this thread have been so uplifting that even if none of this works out, just being involved with it has been one of the best feel good experiences of my life! It's so rewarding to know that there are people like you so willing to back captive breeding of marine ornamentals and so helpful with information to make it happen!

I will definitely contribute, just let me know!! No matter how things turn out the information and knowledge gain will further the captive breeding of these amazing fish in the future!!

Keep up the hard work Karen!!!

Six medium-large Interrupta just arrived in the LA area from Blue Harbor. My lfs just receive 2 of them and a friend received a pair as well. I can go to the lfs and see what he's charging if you guys want. I'm sure it'll be cheaper. If anyone has a direct contact at bh, I'm sure that'll be the cheapest route as I know how much my friend paid for his pair and it is considerably cheaper than the price of one retail.

Will be following this thread closely and would be happy to help.

Karen your breeding of these amazing animals is inspiring and only for the better of this wonderful hobby!

Allmost, Sorry about that copepod link. Here it is for real.:uhoh3:

From reading the posts it sounds like we may be able to get a less expensive interrupta and I'm wondering if I should lower the goal for the donations. I have it at $3,500 to cover the fish on DD ($2,999) plus shipping, permit, indiegogo and paypal fees. Any thoughts on that?

I have the donation page done and am waiting for paypal verification. If I had been smarter I would have done the paypal part first....

I'll ask around and see if I can find a connection to Blue Harbor.

Thanks for all the input!

Keep it around $3500 - If Tactics is right you can get 4 (if available) & still have funds left over for incidentals, imo ... love the thread!
