Mate for C. interrupta

No spawn last night :sad2: Fabio worked hard and showed her all his best moves but she wasn't interested. I waited with the camera since the previous night's spawn had been so funny. Over the past three months Fabio has done his spawning dance every night but it has become less of a show. When he saw that Faith was interested the night before last he cranked it up a few notches. She was blasting around the tank, then slamming on the brakes and flaring out her fins. Fabio would come up next to her and flare his fins as well at which point she would do a quick turn, come up behind him and nip his tail! He would scoot forward and look totally surprised!! I have never seen that as part of pre spawning behavior and if she hadn't produced those 51 eggs I would think she was just messing with him. She is still plump and we have the new moon so my fingers are still crossed for a fertile spawn in the next few days.

Meanwhile larval trial 5 for the P. venusta is at day 16 today. I moved all the larvae (33) to a clean tank yesterday and they all look good this morning.

Karen, you're doing it all wrong! Fabio and Faith both need some sort of musical encouragement. May I suggest a Barry White song?:bounce1:

Hang in there, Karen!
YAY for the P. venusta larvae doing well at 16 days :)
Faith and Fabio will get there, Faith is just being a little bit moody. Hang in there, she will be more interested in Fabio soon :)

I thought the rule was white wine with fish! :spin2:

Connie and Jaws are doing great. Jaws seems to have gone through a growth spurt after his brief encounter with Faith. Jaws and Connie are doing fine together and get along well. I'm still thinking of trying Connie, Jaws and Faith together if we don't get fertile eggs from Faith and Fabio.

The P. venusta larvae are at day 19 today and there are 4 smaller larvae with longer bodies and heavier looking jaws which I'm assuming are the flame backs. I'm hoping for some larvae to settle before the end of the year.

I'll take a pair of venusta and pair of flamebacks if you raise them successfully :) keep up the good work. I hope to one day pick up where rct left off and do the work your doing with these little guys

That is so awesome Karen!
Glad to hear that Jaws is doing so well.
Don't give up on Faith and Fabio too soon, but I have to admit I'd be buying a ticket to HI to see them if Faith and Jaws made babies.
Looking forward to seeing the venusta and flame back babies some day too!
