Mate for C. interrupta

Karen, I can't convey to you how cool and amazing I think what you are accomplishing. Please continue your amazing work and I look forward to your continued success and cool !*#! videos!

Nice work Karen!
The video is really cool, and 26 day old larvae is AWESOME!!!!
Faith and Fabio might not be making babies yet, but this is really really cool :)

Here is a video taken this evening of the P. venusta larvae at 33 days old. The water is clear and the larvae are calm so the focus is a bit better.

I've updated the blog and I'm getting more excited about this run as we get through each day. We're getting close and I hope I don't make any mistakes before they settle out!

They are so cute!
Continued success!
:inlove:

Fantastic work!! Here's to another 33 days!

I'm not super familiar with fish breeding. What do you mean "Settle out"? They seem like small but fully formed fish already. No?

My husband says the same thing about them looking like fully formed little fish.

They have not settled out because they are still planktonic in behavior. When they settle they will be associating with the bottom or sides of the tank. I have put a piece of dried coral rubble on the bottom of the larval tank hoping they'll get the idea. After the behavior change they will start to get juvenile coloration.
The settling out process can take several weeks depending on the species and environmental conditions.

The fish are looking great Karen, hopefully this will be the batch.

Yesterday I saw at my LFS a 1" Bandit angel and it reminded me of your pair, any luck with them yet? I am still a while a way from purchasing a mate for my bandit but I am hoping that once I am ready, it will be a captive bred one from you.

settling out is a common term even for the aquarium trade, but we usually say "drop", which is essentially the same thing. The fish "drop" onto the reef when they reach a certain age and "settle out" and start to grow and form their colors. Sometimes we get almost silver fish which means they "just dropped", but usually on larger species like nasos, or even idols (lots of silver idols during the drop seasons).

Once they settle they will show more venusta colors. Im stoked for Karen !

Here's to another 30 days when they will hopefully take prepared foods !

Karen,Just found this thread I wanted to say thank you so so much for the effort and the stick to it attitude. My good Friend Jim Mc Cubbins worked with Centropyge argi breeding for years before his death he would be so excited to hear of your work. This thread has made me very happy. I have sat many a night watching and collecting egg's. Keep it up.
Can not wait to see these guys tank raised it is a close to the heart wish of mine.

Thank you so much for the work.

Thank you so much for the work.

Thank you so much for the nice words. I have gotten so much support from Reef Central members that it truly helps with the "stick to it attitude". Although I am passionate about it, larval rearing can be frustrating and tedious and the confidence I get through everyone here is so helpful!!!
Hopefully in the near future we'll have angelfish being raised the way clownfish are with several breeders in every state! :spin1:

Karen hopefully in a short while I'll be your Midwest partner in crime. I'll deff have some questions for you and a lot to learn but I've tried my hand with seahorses and did good. After falling in love with dwarf angels I'd like to start a project like RCT and pick up where they left off.

That sounds great H.reidi.MN!

And I should have said world wide rather than "in every state" since there are breeders all over the globe! Sorry about that, I don't get out much!
