Matrix, Purigen, Bio Pellets, GAC and GFO what do you use?

As the title says what do you use?

I'm currently running some chemipure blue and have a dual reactor that I've got some gac in. Had a small amount of gfo in it but the corals weren't happy so I took it out.

Wondering what everyone runs in their reactors?

There are so many choices....denitrate, Purigen, matrix, Bio Pellets, the list goes on....

How do you know what to use???????

My specific problem as always is nitrates but also my water never seems clear. They're always particles. I'm looking at purigen or Matrix or denitrate but have no idea which is best.

Purigen won't denitrate. I guess it will in that it pulls some organics which will eventually become nitrate, but it's extremely minor. It's more of a water clarifier, it does last longer than carbon but if you are running GAC it's a bit redundant.

Matrix will denitrate, pond Matrix is larger and typically better for that. It generally takes some time for the anaerobic bacteria to build up though, about 6-8 months. Put it in the lowest flow area of your sump you can.

I run GAC, GFO and Matrix.

Carbon 24/7/365 and GFO as needed. I really don't see the point to any of the others.

GAC 24/7/365, GFO as needed in a dual reactor, and 2 marine pure blocks for denitrification. I do run purigen once in a while just to polish up the water and give it that crystal clear look.

I don't use any of them. I don't even run carbon or GFO. I have a reactor plumbed into the system, but have never seen the need to use it.

I use Rowaphos for GFO and standard Marineland carbon. Both are in use all the time. I tired the bio pellets but I could never get them tumble.

I ran a combination of Purigen, GFO, and Bio-Marine Polyfilter. Purigen does not work in a reactor, but replaces GAC for organics and Poly is for heavy metals. We were pretty happy with the combination.

Not everyone runs a reactor. If you give us you stats we may be able to guide you more accurately. Every tank is different in terms of nutrient control.:dance:
