Matt's 5000ltr Display

Matt, now that you've showed us some corals there is NO TURNING BACK! :deadhorse1: As soon as we get livestock pictures, its a race to the finish.

Congrats on one of the best projects on RC to date.

Thanks for the compliment...after 2 years of planning and 8 months of building to date I am way beyond the point of no return

Things are coming along nicely Matt!
That UV looks like something from a commercial aquarium! What flow rate are you anticipating through that beast, and how will you pre-filter to prevent killing unwanted livestock?
Absolutely love the coral sneak-peak! That hoke and gomezi look stunning already. :inlove:

Thanks mike...the uv is a commercial one...it is rated at 440 watts and 15,000 lph..I don't expect to run it 24/7...maybe part time.

this is am amazing build, and Matt, you have got some amazing skills, at graphics, and DIY !!! truly impressed ...

and I gotta admit, pics of the first couple of pages had be tricked too lol hahahah that takes skills !! how about a pic of the complete project, with fish and corals, how you vision it would look in say 1.5 years :P

Ha,thanks allmost
Not sure I want to draw a finished tank though. It would be a hell of a lot of work to get it looking realistic. It would probably be easier to wait!

I have to say I can't take any credit for the coral pics. A mate of mine has a coral shop and he has been kind enough to hang on to some stock for me as and when I cherry pick his corals. He is also a superb photographer so I only hope the corals look as good when I get them in my system

Hi matt just been reading through your thread. You weren't lying when u said u were going to start making this at some point then!!

Popeye

I am guessing you're "big al"...great to have you along for the ride if you are...those early discussions we had on plywood tanks have come to life!! Ad said he bumped into you and said you might be stopping by, i am very glad you did.

If you are not big al...sorry :debi:

Ash you cheeky devil. I remember that. I knew it was a wind up but didn't know it was you:lmao:

matt hasn't actually bought that favia, its still up for grabs. He just got carried away on the flickr account i have. There are also a fair few more corals being held for him... growing... sapping up my calcium...

amazing read!!!

what are your plans fish wise??

defo following this one

Thanks fieldy

Fish will probably be the usual suspects on a large tank, a few tangs, anthias I love large shoals of cardinals like threadfin and red spot. I would also like a couple of large angels like a blue face and goldflake. I have a sargassum trigger and would like a pair of crosshatch too.

Do you have a timeline for when you expect to get it wet? I really want to know if that 2x4 holds up.

I had the pleasure of a visit to the build in person today.

When you look at something engineered like this you just know it will not fail.

This really is a great job so far and from what Matt was telling me today the journey is only just beginning. Matt even discussed the layout for the furniture in the room once the tank is up and running and I can see the forward vision going into this project. Following my visit today there's no aspect of it I can find fault with.

Glad to be part of this for you Matt. When the fibreglass goes in you'll be a big step forward in the progress but there's absolutely no rush, not after the painstaking effort gone in so far. I'll be there when you are ready.

Nice to meet you today also.

I've built a lot of things out of wood, and that single front post just gives me the hibbledy jibbledies.

I had been half expecting glass any day now, and a water test to shortly follow that, at least now I know not to expect pudding complete with proof until we have the figgy variety.
