I have this maxi-mini anemone for 4 months now and no problems what so ever. He is under 2 T-5 HO light and 2 T-8 8000K light. Last night I noticed it had shrunk up from 4 inches to about 2 inches. His mouth is close but it look like 2 white nodule out of it mouth. I have seen this before and I know that it is part of the anemone. I am wondering if it going through an expelling stage? And how long it last? Color of it still look real good,no bleaching. Any ideas? As far as eating, it was eating krill for the first month I had it but quit eating krill and other types of food I tried to feed it. It has always look healthy and comes out strong every day expanded anywhere from 4-5 inches and color always look good. I am stumped to this sudden deal.

Shortly after putting my post in I went to see what I could do and figure out what was going on. First of all my maxi lives in the middle of a xenia colony. He seems to like it real well and the xenia don't mind him being there. But they were starting to crowd out the area above him and around him. Some days he would reach up high above the xenia for light and others day it would stay down in the colony. So I cut the xenia that were in his way to give him more room around him and above him. That seems to help him open up a bit more but not like he should be. I gave him a piece of krill which has been quite awhile since he has'nt eaten anything that I offered him. He ate the krill, I am like, finally your hungary. That was last night. Today he has open up a lot almost to his normal size. I hope we are on the road to recovery.

A picture would help a lot more than a description as far as what is coming out of its mouth. Good luck on it though.

They are hardy nems... We have one in our tank, and he's moved to the back of the tank, never been fed, and still opens up real big everyday.... Be patient.

No worries dude (dudette) with the maxi-mini's. Mine grow prolifically in my lagoon under 3000K-6500K lighting. I've even placed the occassional majano and aiptasia near them to see whom wins. Easy cure for majano and aiptasia problem areas IMO. These little jewels are bullet-proof more so than shrooms IME.
