My take on Tunze.... I've had 4 of there products go bad over the years, my 6080 went bad twice and was sent back in for repair twice, my 6100 needed a new empellar, my single controller went bad and had to be sent in for repair. Yes agree the customer service is above and beyond, you always hear that too. But when you think about it, why should you have to use customer service so much? Why is it that you see more threads about tunze stuff needing repair and the great customer service you get from Roger? Shouldn't a great product not need such service? I'm trying to think, I don't think I've ever had to send any other thing I've owned in for customer service before, out of all the stuff I've bought. So I ask myself then why do I continue to by it then if I keep having issues with it? Is there really no other good solution to tank needs other then tunze for me? I think its time for me to start looking at other options...I'm not going to stop using tunze though as the watts/flow is hard to beat but I think its time to find a better solution.
Question I'm starting to wonder, Why is it that everyone praises Tunze's customer service all the time but know one stops and thinks or posts that theres that many people praising the customer service, there must be that many problems with the product to warrant such service?

The tunze 6045 I won at last months meeting didn't stop making a loud buzzing noise from the impellar hitting the plastic cover. I gave it 3-4 days and had to take it back.

Next big pump purchase, vortech is going to get my money I think

My 6080's have been pretty much bullet proof so far, but my wavebox lasted a little over a year running 24/7 before needing repair.

It just seems like the majority of nano stream owners I know locally have had issues.

I don't think I could make vortechs work with the way I have most of the flow setup in my tank now. I would LOVE to compare 2 of them making the wave action to the wavebox.

So, do you recommend not getting the vortecs? heard your tunze had problems too? one of the 6025's I have made a ton of noise for the first day then went pretty quite, I've never had the broken clip issue like most.

Roger had said there was some issue with vaseline they put on the nanos to test them at the sfactory. They didn't wipe it off well enough and it gums up causing noise until it burns off so they all make noise the first 48 hours. Or something like that.

I think they have the Vortech issues sorted out but they also have the nano issues sorted out as well. It's the price you pay (sadly) for being an early adopter.

Out of three 6025's I have here 2 of them have broken clips and one was noisy. I have had them send me one mount to replace the broken clips before so this will be the 3rd broken clip problem for me. The noisy pump has quited down after a day or two like others have had happen. I would honestly stay away from the Vortecs if I was going to spend that kind of money on a large tank I would choose a Tunze wavebox first then a couple of streams as needed.
I don't like the fact that you can't aim the Vortec at all. I thought they would put some sort of vanes on them like the air vents of a car so you could direct the flow and you could rotate it to aim wherever you wanted but they still haven't improved that aspect.
The battery backup thing is nice but for the money they cost you could buy a nice UPS or even a generator. The Tunzes use so little power you could probably easily get 30 hours out of a UPS with 2 streams on it.
These are all my opinions and I haven't owned either of the pumps being discussed but know people who have and watched them go through the process of getting them repaired. I agree that it's weird that everyone talks about the cust. service at Tunze being so good. When I contacted Roger about the broken clips on the first one he sent me a replacement from Texas without even verifying that I own a nano stream. I was pretty impressed with that.

The resun pumps have gotten my interest now. 4000 gph at 1/4 of the price of tunze 6100 and it comes with a controller hmmmmmm

I bought a brand new MJ 1200 and put the mod on it and the pump was really loud. I could hear it a room away. Maybe it just needs to break in, I'll see what it sounds like when I get home.

Please remember C-Sea bylaws prohibit vendor sales at meetings. If Mr. Shinn prearranged the sales and was to meet before or after the meeting (for example in the parking lot) that works and it always done, but bringing product to meetings for sale is prohibited so please keep this in mind. The bylaws were setup to prevent commercial vendors from profiting from a not for profit hobby club.

I like pointing powerheads straight down behind the rock work in my tank. I noticed the sure flo makes a lot of noise like this. I think the magnet isn't strong enough to hold the bigger prop up in place where it should be when pointing down.

What, you couldn't have skipped a good section like the one that has the 'no beer at meetings' rule?

Resun make the Octopus skimmer pumps? I've heard of them for pumps...didn't know they made a powerhead. Any stats besides the pic?

no beer at meetings I think has more to do with the zoo than anything? Back in the day we would all meet up at Don pablos b4 meetings for happy hour. Erik quit buying so now I think no one goes.

FYI, the pump is making considerably less noise today. It probably just had to break in.

I like my Octo skimmer and I think it works really well, however their customer service / sales suck and I would not buy from them again.

Theres a good thread or 2 with videos of the pumps working and alot more info than I know. I read most have gotten these pumps of ebay so far.

I thought those Resun pumps were huge. Sort of like sticking a Sedra 12000 in your tank.
