I got mine the day before yesterday, I'm using it with the standard clip mount and aiming straight down in the back of my tank.

I am REALLY happy with the flow and it's nice and silent. I'll be ordering 2 more for sure.

Those epoxy coated magnets won't leach anything will they? I might get a couple of the square ones.

wavemaker

wavemaker

it should without any problems.
thats why I bought mine,so I can get a wavemaker.
It has a nice stopper that should break impellers like the "other brands"

I'm using mine on a Red Sea wavemaker. Note that you have to rotate the impeller cover around to find a nice spot for it that will make the impeller chatter the least. At first, I couldn't get the impeller spinning in the right direction at all. But after I rotated the cover to a better spot, it barely chatters at all. You just hear a quick click when it starts up.

In my first comment about flow i said the hydor 4 is more powerful. After putting the magnet's on it and putting it back i think there very even. I personally like the flow on the maxi more because its not quite so wide. The hydor blows my sand everywhere no matter where its at. The maxi is smaller as well. And very quiet.

Ok my kits arrived and here are my thoughts good and bad on them.

Good:

- They seem well built and sturdy
- They look nice (finished product so to speak)
- They included the impeller magnet which I did not expect to find
- There is a stopper tab built in into the shroud to prevent reverse spinning.

Bad:

- The one piece propeller/shaft. Why reinvent the propeller? Why not make the shaft separate allowing the propeller to be removed and replaced? This would allow much greater versatility not to mention flow options for the user.

- The shaft is built specifically for a MJ400 or MJ600 impeller magnet only so if you have a MJ900 or MJ1200 magnet you want to use you won't be able to.

- The propeller blades are a tad too thick IMO and could cause more vibration and noise than would a typical RC boat propeller. Infact when my own modded MJ impeller magnet is used with an Octura 1435 propeller it becomes much smoother and quieter.

Overall I think it's a good product but could use a few design imrpovements as per the above.

The flow is decent (about 1500gph ish eq. to an Octura 1435 propeller) but nothing to go WOW about especially for those of you who are used to the MJ1200 highflow mods.

What I did was simply replace the kit's impeller magnet/shaft with my own modded MJ1200 impeller and a Dumas 3004 propeller and this thing is sweet. Much more flow than the stock kit and very simple to do.

actually the props are nice and thick wich will prevent them from chipping.
Mine has no sound what so ever.
perfectly silent.
worth the money

My own mods which used real RC boat props never chipped before either.

Perhaps "too thick" was a wrong description. Maybe more like they needed to be sharpened some so that there is less resistance and vibration is kept to a minimum.
I agreed though this kit is worth every penny of the $20 pricetag

dhnguyen, thanks for the link. You mentioned the shaft only works for mj400 and mj600 ? but the wed site saids that it will also work for mj 1200 ? am confused

it will work with a MJ1200 just fine if you use their impeller magnet which is provided. If you want MORE flow than what the kit can provide then you have to use a MJ1200 and larger propeller which the shaft will not fit

ok got it, they should have made the 1200 with the dumas size prop and impeller to get more flows

Wait ~two months... they say that they are coming out with a high flow model by christmas.

Better yest they should have made the propeller removable so that the users themselves can mix and match diffrent RC boat propellers as needed. I did make that suggestion to the manufacturer so lets see what we see.
