Nice.....a high flow mod....well, MJMods will be out of business soon then. Dohhhhhh

MJMods stopped selling their kits a while back bro.

Snarkys told me he's way too busy to be making them especially with the twopartsolutions.com website he's also running.

D, its a shame you haven't cashed in on this whole mod........as ita a good one.

Only way I could have is if I somehow got the capital to start doing mold injection (which is exactly what Algae Free did) and mass produce them.

Mold injection is a very expensive venture to get into. There is computer drafting and modeling, CNC prototyping, machining the master molds, material, etc....

Otherwise it's really not worth my time and effort making these to sell. Definitely wouldn't be anything to quit my job over :)

Yeah, the mold itself is probably in the 20K-50K range depending on number of cavities, complexity, etc. Material won't be bad though, maybe 50 cents of material per product. Of course, you have to have an injection molding machine, but they probably just send their mold to an injection molding company, so probably not any extra capital involved there.

On second glance, we're looking at 3 or 4 different molds and maybe two materials if they're molding the prop-shaft combo. So, maybe 100K invested in the product.

anyone currently running these on wavemakers and having problems when they "restart" and go backwards? if so how quickly do they begin to spin the proper way? only asking, because i have 3 mjmods, and 2 don't work right. 1 900 has bored out the hole in the cap large enough as to where the shaft fall right out, and the 1200 i never quite got it to spin in the correct direction for more than a minute or two without reversing.

anyways, back to my question at hand - good for wavemakers or not?

I called algae free and the gentlemen stated that they can be used on wavetimers. My biggest question is whether or not it is worth it to run these on a seio controller or just use a regular on off controller or cheap light timer instead. Anyone run there current maximods on the seio controller? Is it worth the price of the seio controller?

It works fine on my Red Sea Wavemaker. But you have to rotate the cage around until you find a good spot for the stop. If you have the stop in the wrong spot, it will never switch to the right direction. It all depends on the position of the stop relative to the windings in the pump motor.

Yep... I thought about doing it but after some initial research I found that the initial capital investment would be more than I can afford myself.

100K would be just for the RnD and machining the tools and molds needed I would think. Then there's packaging, branding, not to mention marketing and advertising it. For such a small market, it would be a bit hard to swallow the initial capital expenditure if you can even get funding.

D.

Sure, but the capital equipment is the biggest expense, most of their marketing, for example, is done by their vendors. Packaging and branding is still a chunk though. Can you tell material type or an approximate weight? I'd say Algae Free has $4-5 in material, components, and packaging per part, so if they wholesale for $12 or $14 and PA, etc. mark them up to $20 they're still looking at 10,000 units or more to recover tooling costs.

will the sureflow work with a wavemaker.
I'm planning on controlling modified MJ-600 powerheads with a Reef Fanatic Wave Creator. The powerheads will switch on and off every 7.5 minutes on average.

-Are modified MJ-600 powerheads quiet?
-Will modified MJ-600 powerheads work on a wavemaker?
-What happens to other powerheads (Tunze 6025, etc.) when they are placed on a wavemaker? (I know this voids the warranty but I'd like to know what else can happen.)

Thanks!

WOW, almost pulled the trigger on that but i've already got to much crap as is. 10x's means 3000gph for the 1200....that is a ton of water movement. I would like to hear if they work first.

10x the flow? same price as the sure-flow!!!! the only issue would be for someone like me that already has a maxi-mod, the attachment will be a problem, since it's glued in place during the modification

i emailed them this :
Hello,
question about the eco system eco mod -
have they been tested for quality? can they back up the 10 times flow claims? since they are pre-orders, when will they be shipping?

they replied:
I cannot answer your first two questions, as we have not gotten them yet. I suggest you contact EcoSystems
http://www.ecosystemaquarium.com/html/ContactUs.html

As far as I know we should have them by the end of the week.

i then went to the ecosystems site and asked them the first two questions, still waiting for a reply.
