so whats the verdict, ecomod or sureflow, which one do you guys has the best durability, quality and potentials to rebuild if broken?

i don't know about the sureflow, but the eco literally can't spin in reverse. i'm not too familiar with all the maximods but i like this one. only think i don't like is that it doesn't come with a mount like the sureflow. I kinda wish I ordered one of each so I could compare.

The Sure Flow has a stopper built in and cannot spin in reverse either, and does come with the nice rotation mount. The flow on the Sure Flow is a little wider than the Eco.

SO i glued one of the 80lb magnet's Dguy suggested on the back of an eco mj1200 kit and it worked like a charm. Perfect.

Maxijet-20bux, kit 20, magnets 10. But if you already have the maxi's then its 30bux.

And yes, teh larger one's would work on a 1/2" glass for a seio just fine. They grip my 125g's glass like i've never seen before. (the80lb ers)

good info here.

luke, if the eco does not come with the brace/ arm what did you glue the eco to? the back of the MJ directly? what glue did you use? do you have a pic?

Well I looked around for pictures of ECO MOD and could not find any so here are a few with the discontinued MJ MOD kit for comparison:

hey could you get a pic of the dumas prop and magnet layin on its side. I want to see how you cut and glued it. thanks. also what glue did you use?

Here is the prop with the metal shaft and end pieces from the ECO kit. This is per instructions from dhnguyen's thread.

I’ll post some videos in a minute.

There is no frigging way that eco mod will put out 10X the stock MJ1200 in flow. At least not using that small black propeller.

More like 1500gph would be my take.

Jay, great job. So you basically just cut off the plastic mold and glued the dumas prop on? So in your opinion is it a lot more flow? I have one eco and one sureflow in my 125g in opposite ends on opposite sides and i have to say, i don't think i want 2500gph blowing in my tank, there 's almost to much turbulence in my tank now. Around 4000gph right now and i think thats good. But a video would be cool. And thanks for the pics.

D, its exactly the same flow as the sureflow ; ) .....10x's my $#%! But good enough for 14.99 from marine depot, thanks for the madnet tip, saved me 25bux and there much more streamline as well. Just glued it on the back and it worked perfect.....although the 80lb mags are kind of scarry strong! Wouldn't want the 3yr old to get them stuck to his finger!

This is per instructions from dhnguyen's thread.
I meant to say that this impellor was constructed per dhnguyen's MJ Mod thread and I used standard superglue from Wal-Mart.

Here are a few videos of my not so scientific comparison (the kitchen sink swirl test!) of these MODS

First one is the ECO MOD with included prop:

Next is with the now famous dhnguyen Dumas 3004 prop/impellor mod in the ECO MOD shroud. No mater what I did I could not get the noise level down. Has anyone else tried this?

MJ MOD’s shroud with the Dumas prop. More water noise than anything.

You can judge for yourself which puts out the most flow.

Sorry if the videos are a little crappy (I'm cooking dinner too!) and the first one is quieter than what came out on my computer. But you can see that the ECO does not compare with standard prop. I’m thinking that in saltwater it will be quieter but I haven’t had time to put it in the tank. The MJ Mod with the Dumas was quieter than any of them.

Jay

I have one on order as I wanted the mounting kit they come with. Did you use the Dumas 3004 prop? I'm going to put those videos on You Tube as PhotoBucket changes them to a different format.
