MaxiJet sureflow 1600gph?

As promised, I received the Triton Aquatics Gulfstream II kit and tested it against the Sureflow 1600. Here are my findings below:

1. The GS2 is much sturdier built with better material.

2. The GS2 shroud is slightly larger possibly allowing for larger propellers to be used. Assuming your MJ pump can spin them of course.

3. Side by side, the medflow GS2 w/ Octura 1435 is about the same in terms of flow but is noticeably quieter. I believe this is probably due to the the Octura 1435 prop used which is more streamlined (re: sharper prop blades) and more balanced than the Sureflow's prop.

4. The highflow GS2 w/ the larger Dumas 3004 prop literally blew the Sureflow out of the water in terms of flow. Easily 2000+ gph.

5. What I DO like better in the Sureflow is the ball joint mount which allows for better positioning of the MJ pump. Whereas the current GS2 mount can only swivel side by side. Now I was told by Triton Aquatics that a new ball joint mount will be avalable in mid-November.

6. Now here's the one thing that sets the GS2 kits above all the rest. Since the propeller is removeable/switchable, you can essentially mix and match propellers to your heart's content. Basically any RC boat propellers using a standard 3/16" shaft hole can be used as long as your MJ pump and spin them.

The new GS2 kits will be released some time this week and prices are as below:

$14.99 for a medium flow kit and $15.99 for a high flow kit

If you want one before then you will need to send them a direct email.

Here are some photos comparing the GS2 and Sureflow

dhnguyen - Thanks for the review! I like the look of that shroud too! Hey, what holds the prop on to the shaft? Looks like a pressure fit into the keyed area from the pictures but not sure.

Yep it is just a pressure fit shaft. It is a very tight fit so you have to use pliers and be careful when removing propellers as to not break them.

i already have a few dumas 3004 props laying around can i simply buy the medium flow kit and swp out the octura prop and save myself the extra 2 bucks?

cool thanks, just that in the pic of the props side by side it seemed that the dumas prop shaft was a bit longer than the one that had the octura on it.

Any thoughts how the GSII compares to the Sea Flo? They are up and running again. The price is a bit more...$27

Greg

That's quite a bit more than all the rest. Again... I still don't understand why manufacturers keep insisting on making the propeller and shaft one assembly. That really puts a limit on what you can use as propellers.

I got 4 sureflow last week.

They are loud, very loud! :( I guess this is a new shipment of them, not sure.

The noise fads in and out but there never quite. I played with them for 20 minutes to no success. This are going back, maybe its a fluke batch and will get straightened out.

One more thing, It seems they could have made them with the ability to attach them to the original suction cup mount.

I should have the new props by sureflow to test out tomorrow.

For me, here are some of the important things that I am looking for:

1, lots of flows (wide patern)

2, nice and quiet (balanced with no vibration)

3, reliable

4, resonably priced

5, mounting options and angles

6, small foot print

7, consume less energy

8, doesn't create the fine bubbles when installed close to the water surface

same problem here, i had them installed 4 days ago and it has quited down a lot but the start up its chatters

Roland,

Do you have them on MJ 1200's? Lots of people have had noise from them on the 1200's. Most seem like they quiet down after they get slimed up.

I haven't seen any posts about loud ones from the smaller pumps.

Ive been running 1 for 7 days now, Non stop. yes they all were tryed on 1200s. I first thought the prop was just hitting the stop but i dont think so.

No, Just have a lot of 1200s.

For now i think I'll just stick with the Hydor 4s.

D is Gulfsteam the same company as Lutz? I still have one of his mods running
