Maxspect LED owners!!!

Hope this helps!
Sure does, thanks!

Given the cost of flash it doesn't seem to be the best cost cutting measure :lmao:

If you really want them off and do not plan on using them ever, you can always disable them/remove them/unplug them from the fixture.
Or the ghetto version - electrical tape over the led :lmao: (really I was curious if disconnecting would cause damage...........some power supplies don't like no load conditions)

Wondering which one you guys would recommend for a 55g. Looks like at fins reef the G2-170 is 730. Would this be sufficient for a 55g? Hoping to be able to keep just about anything.

I have a G2-110. I received the hanging kit and the bracket system but I am wondering how I can order the glass clamp-on piece and how much it would cost? I have a 37gallon cube and I think the clamp on would be the best choice for me.

Do you think I could light my 210 with 2 of the G2 - 170's? 84 x 24 x 24, mounted about 6 - 8" off the water inside a canopy

I contacted Maxspect and they told me they don't have the glass clamp anymore :[
I would still like to clamp my light to my tank..and DIY suggestions?

48 long x 12 wide
21 inches deep

I'll be able to mount it whatever height above the tank, preferably with the legs, but if need be I can make a little rail above.

seems like you would benefit more from 2 110's slightly seperated vs a single 170. I say this only b/c of the brace in the middle of your tank; two modules is going to give you FULL coverage while the 170 might save you some cheese but im betting on dim results. Happy reefing.

That is going to depend on what youre keeping in this 210. Maxspect are a very nice fixture but they do not utilize optics and on a 24" deep tank you just might want to opt for something a bit different. If you decide to go with maxspect and it seems as though you dont want the 30 watt emitters for your tank. I would say, go for four 110's, more wattage and you can evenly space them over a large tank. Whatever choice you make, its LED's, your going to be happy. I myself dont like buying equipment twice so I am optiing for AI's turned longways. Happy reefing.........

P.s. I just noticed the clam in your tank bio, get optics.

You don't need optics for a clam. I have three that are growing well at 2ft below the surface. Just a thought.

My clam sits about 20" down under 500 watts of T5 HO - it does pretty well visually. Im not familiar with "optics" please tell

Optics "bend" light to a specific degree which will concentrate the light emiitted directly into the usable area preventing "spill" (light on the wall and other places you dont want it.) The effect from optics provides a "more efficient" use of light in the tank. The counter argument is that for the price of LED's more people might opt for the "spill" effect vs concentrated so they can cover more surface area and choosing to use "spill" to cover distance. Kind of like your trying to accomplish with two G2 170's. Keep in mind this means less light is directed DOWN onto your livestock. Both methods work I just prefer optics vs "spill".

P.s. I am about to order (2) AI untis in the next 2 months! I want to see if it will be sufficient lighting for a 90gal when raised and the untis turned to run the length of the tank vs depth. Everyone I have talked to including the seller says it is a completely viable solution being that the openings are only 21"x15.5".

Good info, i was just making sure someone wasnt suggesting optics as a brand, ya never know :)

I think i would prefer optics too -

anyone has done any modification to the lightset to stand it higher from the tank? i am currently using the stand but find it too close to the tank but i cant use the hanging kit.

any suggestion anyone?

@gnashty -
I'm currently running 3 g2-160 over a 24" deep 180; they replaced 3X250W metal halide. My squamosa, derasa, and maxima all (save one) rest on the bottom, and they have had no issues with this setup over the past few months of use, showing marked growth. I only use the 30W LEDs for a 4 hour photo period, and as others on this thread have noted the growth of coral and clams is fine, even at 24" of depth.
The 30W LEDs really do pack some punch (a lot), so if you go this route be sure to slowly acclimate your aquarium or you'll bleach out the coral.
Hope this helps with your decision.
Cheers,
Ray

I used 4 wooden riser blocks like this. The bottom groove straddles over the tank rim and the bottom groove holds the rails in place. You can make any height you want and paint it black to match the fixture.

is this a DIY wooden block or actually there is other usage for it?

by the way, anyone try to change the vertical stand to a horizontal 1 instead?
