Maxspect LED owners!!!

I am thinking of pulling the trigger on the 60w version for my Solana. I have a price range of up to $200 for lighting for it. I know ppl are saying to get the 110w, but I just dont have to money right now. I could get a Mh setup for around $200 just dont wanna deal with the heat and adding a chiller, which I dont have money for. I could always do T5 but kinda bored with them lately...

These things look really slick....

man, i would say save more money and go with the 110w unit:bounce1:

Do you think the same can be said for the 110w vs the 160w?

Lol, I orginally placed a order for 3-110's and paid then Going back in fourth in my head I switched it for 2-160's instead and it will be elevated 4" from
my water so I didn't want to lose lighting with the 110's to the sand. Unit's haven't arrived yet but I asked myself the same question. So compaired to mh comparsion what's better 2-250mh or 3-150's. I have sps on sand so I opted to the 160's. I'm upgrading from 6x54 tek light.
That's the reason why I up'd to the 2-160's. What is good for one person may not be good for another. I just figured the 110 over the 60. But the 110 and 160 debate would only be determined in what corals do u want to keep and where in your tank.

Well going against all of your suggestions!. Last night I ordered the 60w version for $200 shipped after 10% off coupon. Now I gotta wait a week for it to come! Oh the suspense.... Really excited about it! They look awesome and very cleanly built.

An extension to this thought - seems I read before that you didn't lose PAR until the light actually breached the surface of the water. Can anyone expand on this?

Picked up my G2 230w from the post office today, just wanted to post some unboxing pictures. No pictures over the tank yet as I need to bend the conduit to hang the light still.

I have a standard oceanic 215 gallon tank. 6" long, 24"front to back and 30" deep. I have a mixed reef and I currently have no problems with growing light demanding livestock anywhere in the tank. I am using 3 400w 20k ushio bulbs in luminark minis with coralvue dimmable ballasts. I love the look of these bulbs. I also love the color my corals take on while under these bulbs.Growth isnt too bad either. My question is : What if any maxpect fixture can I use that would duplicate my current set up? Btw to my eye the lights I have now appear blue/white and very bright. No yellow whatsoever and a little more blue than white.I was thinking of replacing the center halide as an experiment. the fixture would have to be less than 31" long though about 24" would fit

You will not be able to replicate that color IMO but you can come close. Also with 400's you will not be able to obtain that sort of output / if you want to stay with that level of output.

The color is whats most important to me. close would be acceptable. I can actually run the tank with just the two outer halides if I angle them just right. I was thinking of replacing the center halide with an led unit to cut down on some of the heat. If the led unit holds its own then I would go all led.Which one do you think would fit and be closest to the ushios? and how much are they?

The unit with the most output would be the 230W model. At full power with stock leds, you would not be happy with the color compared to ushio 20K's. You could get the look close by going with a 170w model, however the output could not compare to the 400's

I finally got my 160 and I was surprised in 2 ways.

From what I read here, I was expecting a much uglier colour with all lights on. No. It's even a tad too blue for my taste. The 30W leds have not the slightest hint of yellow to my eyes. I Almost wish they did.

With just the blues on, the tank looks so artificial, that I'm thinking about swapping a few whites and blues.

The intensity: it's much lower than what I expected compared to both the photos I've seen here and my previous 150 watts MH, (30000K or 10000K). In fact, if I had to compare the intensity and colour of this fixture with something else, I would compare it with something between a 20000K-30000K 150W MH, just a bit more intense.

But maybe I'm a bit biased here, because I never liked too much blue in the tank.

But all in all, I'm ok with the fixture, I expected much more light (and uglier).

If someone ordered the fixture and then wanted to upgrade to Crees for example, is it pretty simple or do you need to be an electrical engineer? I saw in some reviews they talk about how maxspect are easy to switch, well how easy?
