Sweet! From the last picture, it seems the lights are dimmable. Are they dimmed manually, by the controller, or both? Also are all the lights dimmed together or by individual groups?

They look real nice.........................now if they've gotten rid of the "default to on" setting in the controller (come on after a power failure) could be a winner.

The blue LEDs on one of my fixtures have quit working now. I suspect it's a driver failure. I haven't dealt with a less reliable piece of electronics in years.

I had the same problem a couple of weeks ago. All that was wrong was couple of the blue LEDs burnt out. Covered under warranty!:spin1:

hmm, great thread kinda peaked my intrest guess I'll hold off as I like the idea of some of the new colour combos or are those available already? I saw some mention of it via fish-street, but nothing on fins reef. Fish-street is also saying it's shipping to the us and canada again, and mentions something about a promotion but doesn't say what the promotion is, anybody have the details?

I had one blue LED totally fried. I made a test jig out of 2 AA batteries, electrical tape & wire, and a touch of solder. Remember to bridge one side of the batteries (+ to -).

I ended up buying a Tek T5 fixture locally to run the tank with, while my LEDs are busted. Hopefully this will be the last speed bump for a while.

How old is your unit? The latest G2 has a "bypass chp/IC" which allows the rest of the leds to light up when one of them is burn out in the group. I have a few RB semileds which I swapped out last week. I bought the unit in late June so the bulbs are like brand new if you need some for replacement.

I saw the G3 at MACNA and it looked very nice. You can dim the lights from that little knob. I didn't ask about an external controller. He told me that they should be releasing the G3's the first quarter next year.

Mine are all in series I guess. I bought it as part of the "group buy" here ... March-ish?

I sent you a PM about the LEDs, thanks!

The G3 look really nice,

I'm in the process of building a tank 72 x 34 x 26 (275gal).

As the last couple of hours reading this thread maybe the best combo would be 3 G2 x 230w modules? or better 4 170w?

Or should I wait instead for the G3 unit? do somebody have an ETA on them? decisions, decisions it's boggling my mind!!, LOL

I contacted Fins Reef for more info on the G3 Fixture system, here's their response if anyone's interested:

"Juan,
The G3 is still in the prototyping stages. It has a expected date of March 2011. The G2 will not be replaced with the G3, as the price point will be at least 30% higher for the G3.

The led's are going to be the save set-up with both units.

Thank you,
Brian

Max Spec LED

Max Spec LED

I heard the the Max Spect LED has to replace LED lights very years, If you want to order cree LED you have to pay more.

I'm awaiting my G2 170 to arrive today or tomorrow!

Will post pictures once its here, this will be replacing my ATI Sunpower 6X54 watt since i don't need so much power.

Does anybody have any specific info as when the reflector kit is due to hit the market?

I have read what other sites have posted, but was curious if anybody has gotten any actual info from finsreef on when this will be instock for order?

I decided to just write FinsReef and ask for the specifics on the reflects and I was impressed that I got such a quick response, here is what the apprent details are. It looks like we will have to wait a few more weeks, but the options look pretty inexpensive and give a directions to go in. I will be on the list to get a set for my G2-160 as soon as they get in. I wrote back asking if there will be a way to pre-order, will post when I hear back.

The reflector lens go into production on Sept 20, and are expected to ship to me by Sept 27. I should have them and able to ship to customers the first week of October.
The reflector sheet for the 160 is expected to retail in the $70 range. I should have final pricing by Monday.
The optics are set up as the following.

The optics reflector sheet will replace the current reflector sheet and drop the spread from the led's to 90 degrees. There will only be a choice of clear optics for this option.

Then there will be optic lenses that will further drop the angle down to 60 degree.
There will be 3 optics available.
1. Clear
2. checkered( to blend the colors)
3. Striped(to spread light either horizontal or vertical as desired.

I will keep your name on file and e-mail as soon as I have final pricing.

Please let me know if you have any more questions.

My T5HO x6 fixture on my 28" RT has got some minor problems and have to send for repair.

I have decided to try the G2 160W. It is supposed to come within one week, I'll post some pics afterwards:lolspin::lolspin:
