Maxspect LED owners!!!

Ummm, I've played around with it a bit. I was told originally that the 30w only need to be on for an hour or two and know people that run them that way. I think that if the coral can handle it, bring it on. I don't know exact numbers for some of the times off the top of my head but its:

Blue 830-2330
White 1030-2130?
30W 1230-1530?

For a while it was

Blu 830-2330
White 930-2130
30w 1130?-1730? definately 6hrs

I cut back because I thought that it would help my encrusting monti (lemon lime, rainbow, superman). Those were the only things that had problems and it was only color, growth was crazy fast. I thought that decrease would help color them up but I decrease lighting and moved them down in the tank but still not getting the color that I've seen them have before when I got them. I bumped the lighting back up and I still might go back to a 6hr 30w period as I had no other problems with that.

The best thing I have found with the way they are set up on the rails in the tank, is that they can slide on the rails and I can also slide the rails. So I can concetrate the light right over the SPS and the softer stuff isn't hit with it.
 
Ok, my problem is all taken care of for now, I've hung some eggcrate 2"-3" below the water surface, about 5" from the PC lights until the LED's arrive.


I'm still debating though, now that I have another two weeks to arrive..... would a 110 extreme be a better choice than G2-160? Would adding the optics to the G2-160 be pushing it too much in a 24" deep tank? That's going to be some serious PAR coming from the 30w LED's, even at that depth.

if i leave my fixture at 16 inches above the surface , will it still be strong for the 2x 160W to reach the bottom of tank - 4x2x2 ft ?

I just wanted to try to explain that they are great people, with a great product, but I don't think their business hasn't quite caught up with their business. He just recently became the distributor with the past 6 months. Bare with them and you will not be disappointed in the end.

I had a driver fail nearly a month(!) ago. Haven't had a reply email in over 2 weeks. No idea when/if this is going to get resolved. I am in general very patient, but it doesn't take much time to type a 2-line email. With all the trouble I have had with my drivers + trying to get support, I doubt I would buy these fixtures again. Just my (frustrated) 2c.
 
I completely understand, and if it were me would also be unacceptable. Sorry that you would discredit a product because of, in your case, shotty customer service. My comments were simply trying to explain things from my point of view a bit. I was by no means saying that situations like yours are ok.
 
kgk I like calling Eric or Brian instead of using an email it seems to work better, sorry to hear about the trouble with your light , I am going through a 6 month ordeal with a different type of light but at least mine is working. Good luck

I bought a unit with the group buy back in March. Everything worked when I first recieved it. I haven't set it up yet because I've been really slow in setting up my new tank. Anyway, a month or so ago I went to show a friend the light and the 3watt white LED's weren't working. I contacted Howard, the guy in charge of the group buy, and Brian from Fin's Reef. I heard back from both of them right away. Since Howard was in charge of the group buy, I went through him to take care of my problems. I feel that their customer service was absolutely top-notch. He answered every one of my emails within 12 hours, and most of them within an hour. He told me how to figure out what was wrong with it and we figured out that it was a faulty PCB. They instantly shipped me out a new one, and I recieved it about 10 days later (shipped from China). I was more than impressed with their customer service. If you are having problems with customer service, there is probably a reason. If you want, send me a PM and I'll give you the e-mail of the guy who helped me out, but he's not affiliated with Fin's Reef. So I'm not sure if he can help you out. I think that if you bought it from Fin's Reef you would have to go through them, but if not send me a PM.
 
I also have experienced some corals that are not coloring as they should. I am waiting to see if they will adjust to the light or if thats just the way they will be under it. I have heard a couple different reasons as to why they might get darker in color but not sure if they will eventually lighten or not. I will say that it doesn't seem to effect those corals health as far as growth because they are some of the faster growers, it just appears to effect the coloration.

based on what the other reefers are saying that i do not have enough lighting i will get the complete LED kit change to bring up the PAR level

my situation is that the corals have lost the blue and the red and turn all to brown even though my po4 = 0.003 and no3 =0
Complete lens kit

(acrylic sheet, mirror sheet, reflector cup, and waffled pattern convex lens)
 
hmm so you are hearing that there isn't quite enough lighting? maybe thats what is happening to some of my certain coral as well. I'll have to look for this kit as well and give it a shot. Can you be more specific as to which kit they are saying to purchase?
 
It's hard to say exactly what the cause is. I've had acro's brown-out when I changed my metal halide bulb. Most of them got their colors back, but some stayed brown but still grew just a quickly as before. There are just too many variables to take into account, especially regarding someone else's tank, where you don't see the tank everyday, so you don't know about their water source, if the RO filters are clean, if the water going through the RO might have chloramines, if they got a batch of salt that is high in phophates, if the mag. or alk is too low, etc, etc, etc.
 
one note here is that i kept my corals in the middle of the tank and i am using 4x2x2 here, does it really affect ?

it is kinda of disheartening that some of my corals are turning out like that ...... can it be due to the lighting ?

I don't know what is happening to your corals/tank, but as long as you keep up with your parameters and keep the tank stable, I think you will be fine, and hopefully your corals will regain their color. Faith in diligence.

pls refresh the thread as i posted some pictures of the corals ..... do i need to purchase the led kit ?
 
I don't know, those pics of the mother colonies seem to be taken with a better camera, closer, and with actinics. Your corals look alright to me.
