Maxspect LED owners!!!

I did decide to pull the trigger on the Razor trade-up from my 160W G2. Chris at Coralvue made the upgrade process very easy, and the new lighting arrived quickly. I was able to leave the G2 hanging kit in place and just swap out the fixture - so took me five minutes to get the Razor on the tank.

I mostly ran just the 3W LED channels on the G2 (so about 100W at the wall), and the Razor at first did not seem brighter (measured at 110W at the wall). But at the mA levels at the LED's (700 mA for the G2 vs 1300 mA for the Razor), the Razor must be higher PAR - I think the G2 just looked brighter being 50:50 white/blue vs 30:70 on the Razor.

On inspecting my takend-down G2, I finally noticed that not only were the blues burned out, but one of the 30W whites (which I ran for about 2 hr/day) had only a handful of the emitters working, and was not only dimmerr than the other but more yellow. I think this was yellow light was causing the relentless brown algae growth in the display tank the past six months, much more than the dim blues. Already with the Razor in place just a week, the algae growth seems to have signifcantly slowed.

I recently picked up a Maxspect G2-160W off someone, its working well, but upon closer inspection alot of the led's seem very dark (almost burnt out) but they still work.

I also noticed that some of the blues will only turn on for a few seconds before they turn off (i think its about 3-4... its hard to count considering how bright it is)

Is there a good website to purchase replacement LED's.. I imagine they are universal? "Maxspect Replacement Led" in google isnt returning much.

LAST question... Did you guys swap out any of the 3w or Blues/Violets for any other colors that gave your corals more of a "POP"..... I could sacrafice some of my white for some more neon glow

Aquabeam 2000 Better

Aquabeam 2000 Better

Razor power supply failure. hummmm.

Why bother with 1 year on these razors when you get 5 years warrenty on Aquaray's Aquabeam series. Less heat, PWM Power supply, Better PAR,PUR.

And cheaper. Aquaray's are in the same class as Kessils and less expensive.

Good luck with Razor's :hmm5:

Never heard of the Aquaray.

Do you have a Link with more Information on it?

Hey guys i have an old maxspect g2 110w led fixture. The white led do not come On. The led driver look good and the white led are good too. I trying to find out what need to be fix if somebody already found the answer!

Thank you

i picked up a few maxspect g2 160w fixtures recently. i need to replace a few dim and burnt out leds.

my only question at this point is can the unit be connected to a controller to have the leds slowly ramp up and down? i havent pulled the power supplies apart yet to get familiar with them but i figured they have been around long enough for someone smarter than me try.

i did a quick search and didnt find an answer before posting.

EDIT:
seems like this will run all the 3w leds on two fixtures and connect to my Typhon just fine.

If you replace the drivers I'm sure you can bit it's a bit if work. Done one Power supply runs both channels

each power supply runs all three channels on separate times and the moonlights are always on. im only useing two of the three lights i bought. the power supply on the third isnt working right, all channels come on as soon as it gets power and there is no responce from the controls. i havent looking into controlling the 15w leds yet but i can leave those to the power supply with a time and for about $50 i can power the blue and white 3w channels with dimmable drivers

I recently bought Gen.2 300 W Maxspect Razor. It is a beast! It is so powerful, but I am not a fan of controlling options, it is just too basic - 2 channels.

Hi, I just got the 160k razor a few weeks ago. Anyone out there growing sps with a razor? Looking for sample settings that have been successful. I have a 96 gal cube 30x30x30.

When was a Generation 2 Released?

I have only heard of One Generation.

What are the differences in Generations?

Not sure when it was released, but I believe they changed out what blue LED's they were using as they were failing early (I _think_). I think there were other minor changes.

Arguably they are just about to release pads for gen 3 (which is the 15K version). The 15k has much more blues and purples in the spectrum, as well as more diversity in the white LED's they are using.

I believe you can upgrade just by replacing the pads (but I have not seen the new 15k pads on coralvue's website yte).

Hi, I just picked up the newer version of the larger fixture. I've pulled it out of the box and played with it, but I'm waiting on a tank I've ordered so it's not running yet. Very nice unit - the new version uses 120 degree lenses instead of the 90's on the 300w one. I might need to get the 90's because this is going on a 48" tank and wont need the spread.

I just like getting new products right after they come out. :spin2:

Are they going to Call it the Razor 3 then?

Kind of Like Radion is G1, G2, G3

I never heard of a generation 2.

When I asked before if they were going to upgrade the Maxspect Rep said that they are selling so well that there is not need to update the fixture.

I guess we will wait and see.

Do you have a date on when the new model is coming out?

I think the biggest downfall is lack of control with this.

I talked to somebody who uses one and he says it is a real pain in the you know what because you have to manually adjust it on the LED itself.

Nowadays Kessil has a controller and Radions and AI's can be operated with your phone.

I think that this is a huge downfall for the Razor (Ease of use) compared to other High End LED's.
