Maxspect Mazarra.

Rufio, can you provide some dimensions of the frame mount? I'm particularly interested in the height from the trim on the tank to the top of the frame mount and from the top of the tank to the bottom of lights assuming they are level. I ordered five modules for my 72"x18"x24" 135 and I need to build a new canopy. I probably will not use the frame mount despite ordering one but I would like to hang my lights at the same height and need to build the canopy to accommodate. Thanks

So, let's see. The frame mount from the rim to the top is either 11" or roughly 7.5" depending on the orientation that you use.

From there, the actual lights will be roughly 4.5" down from the very top of the mount. So, if you do the math, your lights will be about 6.5" above the rim of the tank.

Mine are roughly 11" because I have a faux canopy propped up on the edge of my tank so I could install a wire mesh frame so fish wouldn't jump out. :)

Hope that helps.

Cheers!
John

Setup the last module! Light in the tank looks great! Great spread, but line management is still a pain because of the fact that now I have two of the powersupplies to hook up and I ran out of their little line management clips. Although, I think it looks a hair better than before. I wish the power lines could be a little thinner and retractable. :) However, they are solid and as far as I can tell probably could be submersed in water or at least take a strong bathing since the connections have an O-ring.

Pics tomorrow after I come home from work!

Cheers,
John

John, Thanks for the info. I'm not sure what you mean by the orientation but I think I will contact Maxspect directly for their recommended installation height and go from there. It sounds like you are happy with your purchase now...correct? I still have time to cancel my order and go with AIs if necessary so I'm hoping for more reviews. Please post more pics. Also I've been looking into line management systems and found this:

Thought you might be interested. Thanks again.

I also am waiting to get my order from Salty Supply. Their photos are a bit deceiving, since you don't see any cords on the mounting bracket. Mine will be hid in a canopy, so I guess its not a huge problem.

You are right, their photos are deceiving (intentionally) as I asked several times for actual photos on their FB page, they said they would, but never did. But I still think it looks lot better than AI modules.

So far i really like the Mazarra! I had a problem with the 1st controller i received. Called Finsreef and he sent me out a new controller the same day no shipping charge. I received the new controller today and works perfect. I'm liking this so far! Colors look really nice. I love all the settings that are available. The 100 degree optics cover about 20" of my 24" long tank fairly well. Just ordered a second module to get full coverage. I'm pretty pleased!

As promised w/ 3 modules!

As promised w/ 3 modules!

Sorry about the delay, I had a rough day at work, but glad to be home and sharing some of the nice pics of the 3 module coverage.

Enjoy!

And that's it, I tried to show shots from multiple angles and show you a little a bit of how the power lines ended up looking. Not too shabby, but certainly not perfect. We'll see how growth goes!

Feel free to ask questions, I will try to answer if possible. 100 degree optics was definitely the way to go for me so I'm much happier.

Cheers,
John

John,
Looks great, you should turn the old Halides on too and take a pciture for us! :)
A friend of mine got a visit from the SPD thinking he is running a grow up operation since he had 4 x400 Halide and 12 x39w T5 fixture on a 6' ,30" deep tank! I was ROTFL!
Are you gonna go full on SPS?
Dave

I got mine yesterday. The mounts arrived wih a lot of scratches. Some machining on the fixtures looked like was not done cleanly. From 2 ft away u can not tell but These things are obvious upon closer inspection.

It is a very tight fit to fit four modules over a 3 ft tank. Its a real cluster F$%^. I dont like the color "Silver white" I was expecting something that was a cross between silver and white. Its just silver. The black ones look better. Maybe I can paint it. The modules dont slide easily on the track. I have no issues with the wires, seems as neat as u can get with a modular system. I will take some pics and measure PAR today.
I am really happy with the features that the contoller has.

Some quick PAR measurements:
Fixture is mounted 8" above the water surface. All lights at 100% . Fixtures are on a slight angle because this is the only way I can fit 4 modules above a 36" tank. Tank is 24" deep.
8" = (in air) 1050
5" under water= 480
16" under water=120

The measurment at 17" underwater is in a corner. The measurements at 5 and 8" is basically in the center of the fixture. These are the only places I can fit the sensor. Tank is full of corals. I was expecting greater intensity. I have DIY that pushes out 1500 from 20inches away in air.
