Maxspect Razor

I got a G2-160 (semiled version) 3 years ago, with no led replacements yet. The blues desperatly need replacement. And I started to think that in reality I should replace all the leds and the amount of money I would need for that was already well above 300.

I decided to get the Razor 160w 10.000k and the G2-160 will continue to work on a Tanganyika tank.

I remember frying some corals when I first upgraded from a 150W MH + T5 actinics to the G2-160.

Do you think I will need to be careful this time? I currently run the G2-160 close to the water surface and I'm thinking about using the mounting kit that comes with the Razor, so the Razor will be much higher than the G2-160 currently is.

I'm guessing that because the fixture wll be much higher than the height I have the G2-160 now, I won't need to be too careful in the adaptation of the corals to the new fixture. Those two 30 Watt leds are still going very strong and less than 2 inches above the water surface.

The tank gets direct sunlight at least until 9:00 and lots of indirect light throughout the day. I don't feel like competing with sun and I now have the following timing for the G2:

- 30Watt White Leds - 9:00 - 21:00
- 3 Watt While Leds - 10:00 - 22:00
- Blue Leds: 11:00 - 23:00

I'm thinking of keeping a similar program for the razor:

 
Ardeus - I think you're right on the photo adaptation for your corals. Since they are accustomed to LED lighting already, the change to MaxSpect Razor should go smoothly. Beautiful tank by the way!
 
I just got one (160W, 10k) today and I was really surprised about the quality - it appears to be very well crafted and has a solid feel to it. It also looks awesome in person... :thumbsup:

I only tried the manual settings and had it shine against a wall, so I can't say how well it performs compared to MH/T5, but I really liked the ability to tweak the color and I didn't notice any purplish/pinkish tinge at all (the one some pictures show).

Oh, and it's SOOOOO thin! :inlove:
 
Just got my new Razor in the mail today, yay! Hung it over my tank first at about 10" above the water but there was light spilling over each side of the tank (24x24x20) by about three feet. Dropped the light down until no light was spilling over and it's about 7" above the water now. I haven't set up any of the time points yet and I was wondering what would be suggested for a new tank. The tank is still cycling so the light isn't needed yet but when I start introducing corals (will be a softie/LPS mix) what should my regimen be with placement and light strength?

Cruddy phone pic and 100% on both channels so not a lot of detail but I'm super excited about this light!

Well, I have a 110 which is 30 inches deep and at my peak which is only about 6 hours at A: 50% and B: 80%. I mostly keep SPS and I have had to move everything that is not on the sand or to shaded areas. This is after having the light for 4 months and switching from MH. So when you start be gentle and pay attention to the lighting the LFS has in their store and adjust your corals accordingly. Lack of light will not be an issue, and I am very happy with the colors of the corals.
 
very nice setup guys.

I have a 24x18x18 tank running with 150w MH.

Might considering upgrading to a 3ft tank and running the 27" 160w.

Where did you get those hanging brackets ? They look nice.
 
Hi, my tank is 60x24x24. I have sps corals and some zoas. What would be recommended for it? My weir is in the right corner and i dont have any corals, so the usable area is about 48''. Should I buy 1x 160w and 1x 120w, or 2x 120, or 2x160?

I have a 70G Cube 30x30x15 what settings would be best for the shallow tank. I am thinking of torch corals and then working up from there.

Go to the Coralvue website! I think you can trade your fixture in for a new razor and it's free if I read it all correctly! Check it out. You can send in yours for a free Razor.
