May 2014 PROP auction follow up

Another great PROP auction yesterday at Pranksters. The local group sure puts on some good meetings and events. Any local reefers not attending are missing some GREAT deals on corals, and meeting the other local hobbyist. I can't believe what I saw some very nice zoas, and acros going for yesterday. I was cursed by the people at my table for scoring that Cherry Corals micromussa for a ridiculous price.
As always I'd like to follow up and offer assistance with any of the corals that were purchased from me. I handed out descriptions with each coral that listed lineage, placement, and growth characteristics. Please feel free to contact me via PM if you'd like additional help with them. This applies to corals that met reserve, so the rock that Elliot beat my reserve down on is not included. :)

Yes agree, great meeting. Even though my wallet is much much lighter, I had a good time and I got great deals on everything I purchased. I for one was glad there weren't more people there. Jeff by the way everything i got from you looks beautiful.

I agree, another fabulous prop auction and some killer deals to be had!!

Rainbow gomnipora-$5.00
Meteor shower cyphastrea-$6.00
Green psammacora from j porter-$10.00-- he usually charges more than that for his autograph:)
Crazy acans from Pete'sreef-15.00

I want to thank all of the sellers and anyone that had a hand in putting this together!

I will try and post some pictures later.

Again, thanks to everyone, got some great corals yesterday for fantastic deals and the sellers brought an amazing array of great coral, all mine is in and looking great loving life...the acros I got for my brother and I are doing great JP, mine is already showing some beautiful color.

Also the bambams I got and the pink PE I got for the bro are some of the brightest zoas I have seen. BB seem to like things at the top of my tank with the sps, the clementine and pink PE seem to like the middle.

Again, really want to thank all the sellers and those who coordinate the events, the new overhead cam and screen for viewing the coral being auctioned was a very nice addition, I appreciated it.

I'm probably gonna get **** for this. But there was like 20 people total there. I wouldn't call that a successful auction. I didn't count but there might of been more sellers than buyers there.

This thread is not a debate about wether or not the auction was successful, or at least not until now... I believe this thread is to let others know about the prop auctions and the amazing corals offered. Plus jporter is going out of his way to provide support for people that purchased his corals. I don't see how your post is going to persuade more people to come to the auctions?? I do not think your post was relevant or helpful to this thread.

Also, I witnessed a little girl in the front row that was having a blast at the auction, along with several other kids. The auction maintains a relaxed, friendly environment throughout. That right there is a success in my eyes.

There were less bidders than last time, which caused a few items to go home with the sellers, but that seems to happen to one or two here and there. Aside from that there was the highest selling frag (ever?) this time as well as some others that went for decent pricing with some nice small bidding wars. Most if not all sold, and while a decent amount went for starting bid or close to, it is always a risk. I was honestly surprised there was a smaller crowd than last time with some of the great pieces that went then and now and how many people went home with great coral.

While I completely agree that for the sellers sake it would have been better if a larger crowd had shown up I would still consider this a successful prop auction.

Wish I was available to make it... sounds like alot of nice corals were had for pennies on the dollar of their true value.

For future reference, these are held every other month, correct? So July will be the next one?

Thanks
Dave

Thank you to all that were at the action, both sellers and buyers. Eveyone has helped me learn and enjoy the hobbie. Without this network and the support I have received both here and at the auctions, I and others would have exhausted our recourses with Mastering this form of artwork. If it was easy, everyone would do it. I have met tons of people from all walks of life that were eager to share and help avoid mistakes. Your support has allowed me to pass down and inspire to my kids something they will never find in a classroom. And to the Gentleman that passed on a random act of kindness buy donating his corals to me as I start a new tank, those will always be some of the most special. Very classy!

Thank you everyone for making it out Saturday. Yes it was a buyers market. It is really tough to predict what we will have for attendance. I hope this doesn't discourage anyone from showing up the the next one in July. The best thing we can all do is tell any new reefers you might know about the meeting and auctions. Just make sure you have the next date available and off work.

The next meeting will be June 14th 2pm at Pranksters. We will have a Wrasse Presentation by our own Hunter Hammond. There will also be some great raffles.

The next PROP auction will be July 19th. Same place and time.

Nice snag Rippin! What kind of fish is that in the shell behind the scan? JP

Thanks Jeff, The fish is a very personable Sailfin Blenny. He is such a character and his "eyelashes" make me laugh every time. When I feed the tank he darts out and extends his Sailfin and then right back to the coco worm shell. Luckily the coco worm shell was empty before he made it his home.

That's probably my daughter you're talking about she had a blast and can't wait till the next one. I guess I should've taken that into consideration before posting my negativity. I wasn't lucky enough to score one of Jeff's coral but my daughter did get the one she wanted for her tank.

That mushroom is sweet tschupe! I'm sorry for my angry reply. I can imagine how frustrating it must be for sellers to have a small number of buyers. Their is a ton of work, money and time that goes into the fragging of corals.

Ps. The kryptonite candy canes I got from you last auction are insane and are now one of my favorite corals.

I was eyeballin that mushroom but she beat me fair and square =P, it looks very happy in your tank, very nice score.

Man I wanted that mushroom but even I'm not so heartless to be out a little girl 2 times. :( Thanks to everyone that came out. Sometimes its a buyers market, sometimes its a sellers market. After about 8-9 years of going to auctions I dont worry about it too much. The summers always tend to be slower with people out of town. I'm sure next months meeting will be more of a "fair market" auction.
