MB7 + BioFuel (or Vodka) - Show Thread

Unfortunately, I recently, slowly transitioned away from the full blown Zeovit method after approx. 1.5yrs on the method mainly due to cost and availability. The method itself however worked very well for me in growth, PE, colors and pristine water quality.

I am still using stones and getting ready to move onto the Brightwell MB7/BioFuel method which is similar form in gaining ULNS, but less expensive and easily available at almost any LFS.

For all you SPS Nuts out there on the MB7/BioFuel (or Vodka), please post pics of your Display Tanks and show off the colors, growth, and PE that you have gained? Dosing regimine would be appreciated as well. I need some eye-candy motivation!!! :D

~Cheers

i did the whole method and didnt see much out of it so i went to dosing vinegar with it, overall i have started seeing better pe, but i think most of it was the vinegar.

I used to use mb7+biofuel and it worked fine, then I used vodka instead of biofuel and got cyano. I never got the right vodka dosage which is basically by trial and error. so I am now using biofuel again. just follow the directions and you will not get any bad side effects.

Could biopellets be used instead of vodka/biofuels? that would probably last longer for you, maybe save you some money, and it would probably be pretty efficient.

Correct me if I am wrong; so the first 2 weeks is seeding the Tank with MB7 only. Then add the BioFuel after the initial 2 week MB7 phase.

Do I cut back on MB7 when BioFuel is added...and if so, by how much...i.e. 50%, 10%?

I don't know about the two weeks, but certainly after you see the full cycle or when nitrate gets high. Then, just follow the directions on the bottle. no need for trial and error.

Yeah like you said ..in my old set ups i used the mb7 for two weeks prior to using vodka , Then started with half of the recommend amount of vodka. And in creased it really slow weekly never got cayno or anything else. Ppl need to remmember everything has to be done slowly and dose according to net gallons. It dose work well when dosed right

Does anyone else have a tank even close to the results SunnyX is obtaining? He is achieving a ulns without the use of Zeoliths.
If so please post a picture.

I'm about to start dosing MB7/Biofuel. Should I take my Phosban reactor offline now or wait 2 weeks?

How bout some pics guys?

I'll Post some of mine on and off of Zeovit, then repost on MB7/BioFuel.

Seems to me you need more blue light in your tank, your corals are pale...almost too pale the clam doesen't even look blue like it should, lol

are you using 10k bulbs? cause thats what it seems like to me, unless you just aren't feeding enough to keep the corals colors correct

Growth looks good, but color seems lacking a little Your red cap should be a deep red, not pale like the pics make it look

IMO colors looked better under full blown Zeovit but it's not to say they wouldn't look better if you just went with some 14k bulbs and more food in the tank

Tank looks great regardless. Did you change camera or lighting? Exposure looks blown out in the second picture or did you colors fade?

I know you stopped useing the Zeolith rock but what supplements were you doseing when doing Zeovit?

I definitely lost colors when I moved away from Zeovit. The Clam is a Tiger Derasa so only the rim is blue! Majority is orange/tan

Yeah, growth is good...just colors and PE arent the same when I was on Zeo. Both pics are under different lighting. The first pic is under 7x54w Constellation; the second is under 6x80w IC660 overdriven.

I'm still running Stones and Active Carbon. When I was under Zeo, I dosed the following daily...

Bak
Start2
Food7
Pohls Xtra
K Strong
CV
AA
Snow and Zeozym (occassionally)

I've been off of Zeo for approx 3-4 months. I will be using the following Brightwell additives...

MB7
BioFuel
VitaMarine C
Potassion
Iodion
Ferrion
Coral Amino (as needed)

Well thats good about the clam, but the first set of pics it had better color, it either is getting blasted for too long by the T5's or your T5's are too much into the white/day spectrum

what T5 bulbs do you use over the tank?

how long is your photoperiod?

i run my tank on 8 hours a day and split it, 4 hours on 1 hour off 4 hours back on

Also i don't dose anything more than Vodka or aminos and i don't dose these often either

i've never been a fan of dosing more than 3-4 chemicals at a time as it makes it hard to tell what any of them do solo, so i stick with the tried and true, Proper alk/calc and mag and consistantly keep them at the right levels over a year always nets good results from my experience

T5 bulbs that I am currently using are...

4x ATI B+
1x KZ FP
1x ATI AB Spc.

I am still acclimating the photoperiod after switching from the Constellation. Currently at 7hrs/day. Goal is 8hrs/day.

What happened to SunnyX and his pictures in this thread? He posted a couple pictures of his tank and it disapeared. I still have not seen pictures of another reefer obtaining SunnyX's ULNS useing only mb7 and vodka. I've read numerous reefers useing the method where they are able to obtain 0 po4 and 0 nitrate but never the same pristine water quality.

If your using the vodka mb7 method please post pictures of your tank and give a description of your doseing and equipment.

that's strange the sunnyx post in this thread got deleted.
perhaps sponsors are not allowed to post outside their sponsor forum (he runs a business and is an RC sponsor). but I do see sonny post in his build threads. sonny has an mb7/vodka thread, just search for it and read it, it has more pictures and info.

SunnyX,
How do you keep your sand so clean?
I have been thinking of using MB7 on my 16year old tank.

SunnyX posted a picture of his tank here earlier and now it's gone. Since he's a paid sponser he should be able to post where he chooses. I'm hopeing to see a few reefers tanks who are useing mb7 and vodka only and able to obtain an ULNS like Sunny where the corals pop like his.
