i was clean the tank today and my female maroon was P.O.ed at first it just felt like she was bumping into my hand and then the more she did it the more it hurt actually leaving marks and almost drawing blood in some areas. finaly i had to trap her under a strawberry basket i use when i feed my BTA just so i could finish maintenance. is this normal or did i pick out one psycho chick?

Its normal.....some clowns are a little more aggressive. I have two fire clowns that are like gangsters.....THEY CAN GET EVIL WHEN HANDS ARE IN THE TANK!!

In all these years I just got one that absoulutely hates me!
I used to have one that would cuddle up in my hand, but this one bites the crap out of me.
Funny thing though, if I wear my watch, it bites the shiny metal.
Hope it dulls her teeth!
I'm getting gloves.
Not so much that it hurts that bad(I'm a carpenter and get splinters much worse)
But it surprises the heck out of me and makes me jerk my hand around in the tank.

My female false perc is horrible. The only trick I found was to take my hand and put it in a fist. Place it along the glass and go in slowly. Get my hand to the bottom of the tank and let it sit for a sec. She would generally leave me alone then. I still couldn't spend too much time in the tank or rearrange anything. That would always get her mad and off she would go to hitting me. Mostly on the inside of the arm where it would really shock or hurt.

LOL.... My clakii female jumped out of the tank and splashed us a couple of times last time my wife and I collected her fry.

Maroons are demons I'm sure. :D Not sure why we are so fascinated with them. Luckily mine just takes out her frustrations on rocks.

Yup! My female GSM does the same thing. Doesn't draw blood or anything, but it does surprise the heck out of me & makes me jerk my hand around too. Sometimes, if I remember, I'll put a little food in first to distract her.

The male GSM is not nearly as aggressive. Has never bitten me, or even come close for that matter.

I will say that the female will eat food from my fingers (the male won't). The guests enjoy that ;)

I'll have to try the food trick.
Seems like she's worse when I scrape corraline.
I wonder if she hates the sound or vibration or something.

One of my false perc clowns is nasty like that. I have a pair and named them Tyson and Evander. I think Tyson is the female as she is a little larger. She attacks my hand and arm relentlessly when I am working in the tank. Evander just circles my arm, but never bites. I tried "Aqua Gloves", but they were to thick to work in tank without knocking things over, so I bought thin shoulder length disposable plastic gloves. They work great and I don't have to get my arms wet, get bitten, or contaminate my tank.
