I just learned what not to do. I was moving my live rock from the down stairs to the tank up stairs and I got very wet on way legs and they brook out in this very Bad rash , that looks like poison ive and hurts very bad . So I went to the doctor and they had to give me a shot. I still cant beleve after a got done working on the aquarium I went and took a shower and washed down with a alcohol bath . Did not see that one comming !!!! Darn do I feel dume.

Hot water is a remedy for marine stings. Warm vinegar will dissolve spines, stings, etc. Soak. A little benedryl couldn't hurt.

vinegar does work well for bristleworms, but at this point, you should go for the benadryl. You can get a spray kind too that is amazing.

You are not even close to dume yet. I was moving a lion fish from one tank to another and it flopped and like an idiot I reached to catch it. OUCHIE!! One of the spines went unde my fingernail and broke off. Needless to say a trip to the ER soon followed...

Do you have aiptasias in your tank? When disturbed they can fire off their nematocysts and fill the water with them. A former coworker was diving in a large public aquarium tank to scrub literally hundreds of aiptaisia off some rocks and any skin not covered by her wetsuit looked as if she had a rather bad sunburn.

As we gathered round to admire.... a few rather "unique" home remedies were tossed out by various aquarists.

Meat tenderizer mixed to a paste with a little water is supposed to be good when applied to skin irritants.

Urine is also said to be good at relieving rashes and what not.

I have tried neither myself, and hopefully won't have to anytime in the near future.

Guess you just can’t be too careful in handling of this stuff, sorry to hear about your ER visit. This hobby gets real expensive if you have to factor in deductibles.

Another reminder that the animals we keep are wild and have natural abilities to protect themselves from those who may eat them. Definatley worth our respect! Same kind of thing happened to me but not as bad as your experience. Mine just went away after a few hours. Thank goodness I didnt have to pee pee on my arm

Duct tape works great for removing bristleworm spins, just lightly rub in the opposite direction so it pulls them out.
