Meeting Days

i was thinking that our meeting attendance is down and we have been meeting on the Weekends. We used to meet in the evenings during the week. Maybe we should try an evening meeting during the week or a Friday evening.

Your thoughts

I think, selfishly at that, the weekends are probably still the best. The biggest problem I've seen lately IMO is that the meeting is announced the month of the meeting, generally. I think it would behoove us to announce earlier and also share the meeting details on Facebook as more than one person mentioned they rarely check on RC. Just my 2 cents

This type of thread comes up every few years . I've said this since the inception of the club. The only way to grow the club is to have a consistent date, time and place . Like the second Monday of the month at 7 at such and such place. Than its easy for everyone to schedule around that and new people can just show up .

Historically, summer meeting attendance tends to be lower.

Back when I was pres, we generally met monthly on I believe it was the second Friday evening of each month at the Union Hotel restaurant, except for when members offered to host. In my opinion, the switch to every other month weekend meetings hosted by members appeared to increase attendance.

Working in SF, I prefer weekend meetings, as then I don't have to endure the commute out of the city only to have to drive north to Santa Rosa.

I agree with James that a consistent date such as he suggests makes planning easier.

Again in my opinion, our lack of an active social media presence on any site is a significant factor in our less than robust attendance and we are missing an opportunity to attract new members.

We have had a lot of well attended meeting on Weekends and Week days. As Ken points out maybe it's a summer thing. Social Media presence is a great idea. I think we still need to post on RC as well as social Media. Who wants to handle Facebook. i also don't use Facebook.

Depends on when you were born, the newer generations live by social media, and we aren't getting younger...

I think a consistent and easy to remember date, first Saturday every month, or something like that makes it nice.

There have been many times that when I finally checked RC the meet was only a week away, and that didn't leave much room for working around plans I already made.

I don't care which social media site or combination of sites we choose to target. We just need to be out there. Maybe some of our younger members could provide insight into which sites they think would be most relevant?

I honestly think it's just summer I've been gone fighting fires people do family trips etc.... what about a group text that goes out once the meeting date is set? ?

That's good but we don't have phone numbers/email addys or real names of lots of the 'members'. :)

One of the down sides of the casual nature of our membership.

I'm all for the concept. Let's see what other's think. If it's a go then we can figure out a way to gather the info to make it work

A "texting list" could help inform existing members of meetings dates. However, it will not facilitate the attraction of new members. We need some way for people to become aware of our existence.

I know I have printed up flyers and taken them to the local reef stores that existed at the time. The flyers were not that effective and were dependent upon store employees to distribute.

When I google "reef club sonoma county", the top three listings are for DARC, a club in denver on RC, a new coral discovered off sonoma county, and what appears to be a blog posting from James in 2006.

BAR has a banner at at least one LFS. I don't thing the SR store would be OK with that but perhaps the Cotati store would be.

Well we could have a sign up sheet at the next meeting if people are interested in this idea. Just a thought

I think a couple lists including phone numbers, emails, and social network ID's could help you contact members all at once. Maybe it could be a sticky or something on the forums for everyone to easily access or make it only available to forum leaders. If people do not want to share that kind of info then they don't have to but whoever does obviously wants to partake in the monthly meetings. Weekends seem better for those farther away and I also think the early afternoon meetings on weekends is the best time. I am sorry I have been inactive this year but I have attended a full year or two's worth of meetings in the past. I think a scheduled date more in advance would help at least for me as because I am not on the forums enough. I do not have Facebook but did not know the club had one either. I think if you had someone working all the social networks as well you could increase attendance. This is a lot to do I wouldn't mind being in charge of one of the social networks or some aspect of this if it helps the group. Please let me know how to help. Good luck!

IMO If you utilize the existing fb page for group notifications and/or use that website it can all be centralized using the existing infrastructure. May also garner more interest. Easiest path wins ;)

If you guys want to really use social media I'm willing to try and maintain all the aspects of it, ie. Facebook, Twitter and or Instagram accounts.

The one thing i would keep in mind - some folks dont use social media but everyone has an email address. If social media is the way to go over the wcr website let see if we can be sure to keep those not in social media in the loop as well. At the next meeting, while collecting demographic info lets ask people to choose which way they would like to see it go so we can see who has social media and who doesnt or simply indicate their preference for coordination. Plenty of people have opinioms but offer no help. Im certainly doen to brainstorm. Ive been a memeber of various clubs outside of reefing. Any and all insight is helpful. i could also be wrong. Maybe everyone in wcr has social media but id bet there sre a few that dont. Just a thought
