Unfortunately this meeting and the next I will be out of town. It was a hard decision but Aruba won. I really want to participate as I need to learn alot more. Please pencil me in for future meetings.
Do we have enough large corals to frag for the workshop? I have a very large pink Anthelia ( spelling?) (softy)- but not willing to donate the whole thing. Also have a large green slimer colony (sps)- also not willing to donate the whole thing. Steve (or other officer of the club) - will the club purchase these from a member to use for the workshop, if needed? Not asking big bucks- but there worth too much to just donate. I know the club purchased several colonies in the past from stores for this frag workshop..... Don't mean to sound greedy, but if we are buying colonies form a store why not buy from members? Certainly, the purchase does not have to be from me.
While I do not disagree with purchasing from members, I also support purchasing from Elmer's. They provide us with great space for the meeting, and pretty much anything we ask for.
As far as purchasing from members, I see the benefit but I also see the opportunity of a few people getting upset if we dont buy from them or because we bought too much from some other member. Plus its an additional (albeit probably not a lot) organization on getting a list of who has what and how much they want to pay.
Hmm... never thought of that- yes - purchase from Elmer's. We don't want to appear to have favorites or have individuals making money from the club. I was just thinking of how to save the club $$. I will just bring a large piece of the slimer to frag up as a donation, and possible a large piece of my pink anthellia ( somebody tell me how to spell this name) softy so we can cut up a "softy" as well.
The goal is for members to bring in and donate to the club as many corals as possible so we don't have to buy any. We usually have enough donated corals that we don't buy anything except for something massive like a closed brain or something that is cool to take a tile saw to.
WOW!! I'm figuring out here, pretty quickly I might add, that theres gonna be alot for me to observe and learn about at this meeting! I'm sorry I wont be bringing any frags along, but then, everything in my reef is already a frag!
Unfortunately all of my stuff is pretty much mounted to my rockwork. Next one for sure I'll have quite a bit of SPS that will need thinned out, but for now, I don't have anything since my situation is like jimzin's....Most of it that was bigger than a frag was trimmed down to get into the new tank.
I will be getting my membership online this eve...is it safe to say that will be enough of a timeframe for my printed membership as i plan on attending my first meeting Saturday....one other question, i noticed on the PMASI site, it asked for "you forum username", safe to assume they are asking for my username from this forum?
