In my opinion they are very robust... possibly more robust than haddonis and definitely more than gigantea.

Mertens are much hardier them gigantea about the same as green haddonis

If you find them healthy they are bullet proof

The other good thing is, they seem to ship better than the other two. I have seen maybe 10 in person, at wholesalers and LFSs. I have never seen one that I would not have purchased because of its health. Too big, too ugly yes, but never unhealthy.

This is a nice one :) Orange with stripes :) I can hardly wait to see what it looks like once it settles in...

Stripin on he out rim of a mertens is a sign of stress.

I didn't know that, but I agree that it's stressed. Most mertensii I've seen are relatively flat like a haddoni. Also, it looks like the mouth is puckering and the siphonoglyph is exposed. The brown stuff could just be zooxanthellae, and hopefully the nem is just purging it, and trying to get settled in.

I saw two mertensii come into a LFS, maybe six months ago. One pulled through and the other one melted.

Out of all the mertens i have seen when they are closed up like the one in your pic not completely layed out they show those outer stripes. In the last shipment of 12 when they first came in most showed thise stripes till they acclimate and looked healthy. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1339414838.385489.jpg
