Metal in the Tank!

Let's just say, totally hypothetically --because this DEFINITELY didn't happen to me-- that there was a metal razor blade accidently left in the sump before it was ever hooked up to the system. Is the water that was in there with the rusted blade completely useless?
I assume that it shouldn't be used in the system at this point, but wanted to double check.

Thanks,

I agree w/ DrBDC, water is cheap and peace of mind is priceless. :)

How long was the water sitting? If it was just sitting & not hooked up to the system, I think the water is garbage regardless of whether or not a rusty razor blade was in there.

I believe most razors are stainless steel, so how do they rust sitting on the shelf in the shower, hmmm. But anyway the majority of it should be stainless which in itself is safe anyway i.e. internal pump screws. If you were really concerned about something still being in there you could run a poly pad and it would be even safer. I myself would just rinse and use.

Ok, now I'm confused - are you asking whether the WATER is useable, or whether the actual SUMP is useable?

Just wanted to know whether I should toss the "Contaminated" water. this razor was bright orange. i had read that metal is very bad for aquariums.
i plan to clean out the sump of any orange residue from the blade, and then get it refilled with good saltwater.
sound like a plan?

thanks,
B

The water is bad and as already stated, very cheap compaired to the damage the metals could do to your system.

And I assume you are talking about a utility razor that you used to scrape the sides of the glass, those are definately just carbon steel and will rust in a heartbeat.
