Mhucasey's SPS obsession

TANK YOU VERY MUCH MATT !!!! For taking the time to do all that drawing.

I love the " Wiener dog " , that is an important piece of equipment ... LOL... I have 3 of those pieces .

I have never seen those plastic hooks you have to provide support to the pipes. Nice !!!

Another question: I can see that the valves are equally open in both return pipes. Do you know if the same flow/amount of water returns to each tank ? How do you manage that ? Or you don't care ?

Your system is working flowlessly so I like to know those details because, you never know, when I will need to do something similar.

Thanks for your time in answering all my questions.

Cheers
Daniel

One more : you have a line from your skimmer cup to the sump, correct ? Are you feeding skimmate?
Thank you, a lot of thought went into the design:). The return lines are wide open pipes, no spray bars or anything, I found the flow to be about equal between the two tanks, but the exact amount is not really something I worry about. The plastic hooks are found in the plumbing section at the home improvement stores, used for securing pipes in structures. They are very nice to hold the pipe and minimize vibration.

The line from the skimmer cup goes to a big reservoir in the back with a float sensor. I pinch off the line to let me see how much skimmate is collecting over a given time period, then I open it up and the cup empties into the reservoir. I don't feed it to the tank, which is probably good, since the stuff this skimmer pulls out is pretty nasty:)

You have three wiener dogs? The one in the picture is oblivious to everything except playing with his ball - a split second after the picture he had it lodged behind the pellet reactor and went blundering in after it:headwallblue:

Looking good Matt. What and how much are you dosing for amino acids?

Thanks:). I'm dosing the Salifert Coraline Aminos, 4.4mL spread out over four doses per day. This bottle is almost empty so I need to decide if I go without Aminos for a while or go back to Acropower. I haven't noticed anything bad with Salifert, just nothing different from Acropower. Acropower is cheaper...

Nice action photo bomb by said wiener dog.
You know that ball is moving!
Nice, orderly sump, Matt

He flings that thing in the air and takes out cans and glasses on the coffee table, and intentionally throws it in the water dish:lolspin:

Wish my sump was so organised....such an amazing job buddy:beer:
In the reactor you have NP and AIO pellets together?

Looking at the picture it still looks a bit messy to me, I need to clean up those cords:)

In the reactor, just AIO. The top part of the reactor is covered in Spirorbid snails and other assorted life.

My border collie use to play fetch with himself. I miss that dog.

Dinky plays fetch with himself using that ball for hours straight. He is solid muscle, no fat whatsoever on his body. If he was human, he'd be in a program for addiction:lolspin:

Sounds like he's jealous of the fish!

I hear you.. I miss my reefmutt, too.

Two Points!

Interesting I`ve always wondered about that stuff - would it not be cheaper in the long run to use a more concentrated solution and just add in a few drops per day? That said I find it easy to overdose amino acids so I usually don`t add them.

I've noticed increased growth and polyp extension with Acropower, but it is different than "all in one" type AAS you add by the drop. Acropower and Saliferts AAS are largely Aspartic acid, which has a big role in coral growth, possibly used as part of an organic matrix that assists in CaCo3 formation.

It's pretty inexpensive and it doesn't go bad at room temperature so I can add it with a dosing pump, which is nice:)

Does Salifert Coralline Aminoacids not need shaking vigorously each time before dosing? If so, how are you going to address that with automated dosing?

It says "shake before use", but it is a clear, homogeneous liquid, so I don't think it's a critical requirement.
