Minh's Blue LA Gigantea 6/26/2014

I bet you're right, they probably think just leaving it run in their vats all the time is best, for them (so they don't loose money). Could be why it's not as effective for some, creating resistant strains, making it tougher for the end owner to acclimate, once again...

I thought the dose was 250 per 10 gallons,no? In the cipro sticky, I thought that is what was written (post #94 says 500 per 20 gallons). Most of mine were treated at the 250mg per 10 gallon level, seemed strong enough. Only on a stubborn one, IIRC, did I use 500.

Minh, it's looking good. I'm happy for you. :)

Yeah, I'm sure they dose their holding tanks. They don't care about the next guy. As long as they get the money and people keep buying.

Dose is 250mg/per 10/g.

That's a starting dose. Plus, it's only in the water column. If the NEM is really sick and not inflating, the antibiotic is not as effective IMO. If he inflates full of treated water, he'll do a lot better.

So that's why I double the dose. Some barely inflate. I want a higher dose in the water column for those super sick Nems. For what little water they take inside, it's more effective.

The anemone looks great today. No problem. A little on the expensive side but I love the color. He maybe stressed a little and spawned last night.

When a gig, mag, or Haddoni spawns....what does it require (conditions or other species) to produce their young?

Very nice snag Minh.

I can not wait to see how it continues and works out.

Worm, I've watched some of your time lapse videos, and I gotta say...very cool and interesting!

How do you make them if you don't mind me asking?

Sorry Minh....only question I promise. :-)

Jared,
In our tank, the only anemones that have a chance at sexually reproduction would be those that have internal fertilization.
H. magnifica and S haddoni are know broadcast spawners. They just release their sperms and eggs into the water column. The eggs and sperm fertilized but the fertilized eggs will just get chewed up by our filer system. They will not survive to settle and develope into a young anemone.

There are three species of host anemones that have internal fertilization. E. quadricolor (BTA), H. malu and S. gigantea. In these three species, the females take the sprem internally fertilized the eggs inside the female. These eggs developed inside the female and the mother anemone released fully formed babies. In S. gigantea and H. malu, I think the babies egresses though the mouth. In E. quadricolor, the babies released thought forming a vesicle through the tentacles. In all three cases, the babies are fully formed and settle right away to develop into new young babies.

If we want to reproduce host anemone sexually, we should concentrate on these three species.

Thank you Minh for allowing me to use this thread to update my gig's status. I will add pictures so we can easy compare how well the gig respond to antibiodic treatments.

The gig is on its 3rd day of treatment. I added Septra after 90% water change every night after the light is out. The gig would look best and fully inflated through out the night but during the day, espeacialy towards the end of the day, it deflated a little.
Currently i have a 4 bulb 39w ati fixture hanging at 10" above the water sufface running at 100% intensity. Is it too much light for the gig?
Pictures will follow.

Naw, they love light. That's sounds real good for a HT. If you notice that he is not tolerating well from the infection. Just turn down the light intensity to better suit his needs. Yes, send pictures.

My anemone detached last night and was just floating around. he attache really quickly when I turn the flow down and block him in against the side of the QT. The way I have it set up yesterday, the current may be a problem since the flow was flowing around him in a circular patern where he is right in the middle. He did not deflated.

Here are the pictures this AM. Day 4 of treatment.

Here is the purple gig before the light is on. The mouth is a little gapping but the gig does not show its guts. No waste or any rat poops. Overall it looks not too bad.

However when the light is on, the gig becomes sagging and slightly deflated. It looks like it is sensitive to light, and I am not sure if it is common with sick gigs. The gig is on its 4th day of Septra treatment and I plan to continue to treat it until its condition gets improved.

that look like my goliath when I first treated him Minh, he is about that size, wow. I am drooling, pass the tissues :)

Bro, if he's responding negatively to light, keep them off or run them extremely low.

Good luck, would really like to see him come around.
